content usage
This is a highly strategic and non-traditional FP&A role sitting within a newly elevated digital content and data business unit that is becoming a core driver of a global AI-powered platform.
This is not a standard SaaS FP&A role. The focus is on how digital content and legal data is sourced, licensed, structured, and monetised, directly feeding into product value within an AI-enabled information platform.
If you enjoy working in a build environment, solving complex commercial problems, and operating at the intersection of content, data, AI, and finance, this role offers high visibility, direct exposure to senior leadership, and the opportunity to shape how a critical business unit scales globally.
The Company
Our client is a high-growth, globally scaled technology organization operating across North America and international markets. The business sits within the broader legal, information services, and AI technology space, delivering mission-critical data and insights to professional users across regulated industries.
The organization is investing heavily in AI, data infrastructure, and content-driven product expansion, with a strong focus on improving how specialized knowledge is structured, licensed, and delivered through its platform.
The Content team sits at the centre of this strategy, responsible for how proprietary and third-party content is sourced, structured, and monetised, directly impacting product performance, AI capability, and customer value.
This is a newly elevated function with significant executive attention and is evolving into a core strategic pillar of the business.
The Role
This is a high-impact Finance Manager role acting as the dedicated FP&A and strategic finance partner to the Content business unit.
This is a build environment, not a traditional FP&A function.
The successful candidate will help define how content economics, licensing structures, usage-based pricing, and AI-driven content value are modelled, analysed, and used to drive decision-making.
This role blends
Content Finance, Product Finance, and Strategic Finance
, and is best suited to someone who understands how content, data, or intellectual property is monetised, not just traditional SaaS metrics.
You will work directly with Content leadership, Product, and Operations, with exposure to VP-level stakeholders and senior content and product executives.
What you’ll be doing:
Own budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning for the Content business unit
Build driver-based financial models covering content volume, jurisdiction economics, licensing costs, and production capacity
Support royalties accruals and licensing cost structures across multiple data and content providers
Partner closely with Content leadership, Product, and Operations teams on strategic decisions
Support publisher agreements, licensing negotiations, and content expansion initiatives across multiple markets
Model ROI of AI tooling, automation, and content efficiency initiatives within a digital platform environment
Influence build-vs-buy decisions for content sourcing, data partnerships, and platform expansion
Develop unit economics frameworks (cost per document, cost per jurisdiction, cost per legal domain)
Link content coverage, platform engagement, and customer value through financial analysis
Build and maintain Content P&L reporting, dashboards, and KPI frameworks
Identify efficiency opportunities across licensing, editorial operations, and technology spend
Present insights directly to senior leadership (VP level and functional executive leadership exposure)
The Candidate
You are a highly analytical, commercially minded finance professional who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys building from the ground up.
This is not a structured corporate FP&A environment — it requires someone who is proactive, confident, and comfortable operating in a rapidly evolving business where financial frameworks are still being defined.
You are someone who can translate operational drivers into financial insight and influence senior stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
What they’re looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
5–8 years of experience in FP&A, Strategic Finance, or Finance Business Partnering
Strong financial modelling skills (driver-based, scenario modelling from scratch)
Experience owning budgets and forecasts for a business unit, product line, or cost centre
Strong executive presence with experience presenting to VP/C-suite stakeholders
Ability to translate operational drivers (volume, usage, capacity, cost structures) into financial insight
Experience with ERP or planning systems (NetSuite or similar exposure)
Strong commercial mindset and clear career progression
Ideal Background (Critical):
SaaS experience is not the priority for this role but preferred.
The strongest candidates will come from environments where
content, data, or intellectual property is monetised
, such as:
Media, publishing, or information services businesses
Subscription + licensing or data-driven platforms
Product or strategic finance in data or analytics businesses
Big 4 Deals / Valuations / FDD → FP&A transitions

Key experience focus:
Royalties
