About the Role
We are looking for an Executive Producer to lead dynamic, creative teams in the planning, development and production of news content. More specifically, you will play a key role in the management and development of journalists and in the production of ICI Nord de l’Ontario and ICI Windsor programming. Under the authority of the Senior News Manager, you will be required to plan, direct and co‑ordinate the work of others, effectively communicate the programs’ strategic objectives and oversee team development and performance. You are expected to have strong, proven leadership abilities and a high level of competence in news. The job requires the highest level of creative thinking and an ability to originate and develop innovative program or production concepts. You must work strategically with internal and external partners as well as collaborate with other team leaders to plan and promote cross‑platform content. All work must adhere to CBC/Radio‑Canada journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices, and you must lead your teams to ensure that this occurs. You must also be an experienced journalist, confident and innovative, and comfortable with high‑pressure situations.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, direct and co‑ordinate your team’s projects, effectively communicate strategic objectives and oversee teams’ development and performance.
Be responsible for human resource allocation and accountable for budget and business outcomes.
Plan and organise the human resources needed for the teams’ operations, including the production of employee schedules.
Manage employee requests for training and work tools.
Play an active role in ongoing personnel recruitment and hiring.
Ensure the quality of all production content.
Support producers in their editorial choices and follow‑ups for daily content and special projects.
Provide ongoing feedback and maintain an open dialogue with employees about their performance and development.
Draft replies to audience complaints and praise in conjunction with the leadership team and the producers under your supervision.
Support the teams’ development by providing mentorship and opportunities to personnel assigned to the production, including freelance contributors.
Work together with partners from News, Operations and English Services for personnel development, problem solving and various projects.
This role requires full‑time on‑site presence.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Seven (7) years’ experience in the media industry, including advanced knowledge of multiplatform environments.
Three (3) years’ experience with digital best practices and performance metrics.
Team management experience and strong leadership skills to engage and inspire creative teams.
Proven track record in developing people and providing constructive feedback.
Positive attitude and solutions‑focused leadership.
Superior editorial judgment and thorough understanding of CBC/Radio‑Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
Excellent current events knowledge, particularly the stories that matter to audiences in Northern Ontario and Southwestern Ontario.
Familiarity with minority language issues and audiences.
Superior knowledge of journalistic processes, news‑gathering methods and the production of stories, programs and content for TV, radio and digital platforms.
A passion for digital content and interactions, and for creative ideas.
Skills as an innovator and risk taker who is committed to reflecting community and diversity.
Ability to manage budgets and reach targets.
Strong creative skills to evaluate stories, develop content ideas and find solutions to a variety of technical, resource and operational issues.
Self‑starter able to anticipate events and work with little supervision.
Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple developing stories.
Working language spoken and written: French and knowledge of English is an asset.
