For 26 years, the Compassion Society of Halton has responded to the needs of the community by providing donated food, clothing, everyday household articles and referrals to local resources. It opens its doors to provide economically disadvantaged community members with food, clothing, household items and toys without charge. It also provides guidance to its clients on publicly available programs that can provide them with needed assistance.
Driven by a team of amazingly dedicated staff, volunteers, and board members who actively solicit monetary donations, in-kind donations, and gifts that enable us to serve all the families that come to the Compassion Society in need.
This is a career leadership opportunity to lead the transition to a community services organization that is at the centre of the network of agencies and partners who are helping those in need and reduce poverty in Halton.
The Executive Director is the key management leader and representative of the Compassion Society of Halton (CSH) to the community, employees, volunteers and clients. Reporting directly to the Board, the ED oversees the administration of the charity, its programs, its public communications, and implements the strategic plan of the organization.
What you'll bring to the role
10 or more years of senior nonprofit management experience with a demonstrable understanding of funding and leadership programs for charities in Halton, Ontario and Canada
Skill and experience working with a Board of Directors
A track record of successfully generating new revenue streams and improved financial results
Active fundraising experience: excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community and how to expand funding reach of the organization
Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers
Experience in performance management of staff including giving clear directions and consistent feedback
Skills
Sensitivity to and knowledge of national and global food insecurity causes, effects, and solutions
High level strategic thinking and planning: ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff/volunteers/donors/government audience
Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, and reporting
Adept at fostering relationships with other community partners
Ability to effectively communicate to donors, stakeholders, and the overall community
Proven public speaking ability, strong written and verbal communications skills
Demonstrated ability and success in developing a positive and collaborative culture with staff and volunteers
Effective conflict management skills and knowledge of de‑escalation processes
Solid operational skills including planning, delegating, program development, and task execution
Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, SUMAC or similar systems
Transparent and high integrity
Excellent judgment and strong decision-making capability
Strong commitment to the CSH cause
Political acumen when dealing with key stakeholders
Assets
Knowledge of and/or a connection to Halton Region
Education
Minimum Bachelor’s degree preferably related to Nonprofit Management, Policy, Political Science, Development/Humanitarian Studies, or a related field
What Compassion Society Offers
Annualized compensation of $125,000 to $140,000, commensurate with experience
Vacation – 4 weeks to start
