The Equipment Bay Attendant position exists to support the instruction and logistics of Canadian Mountain and Ski Guide Training Program (CMSG) and TRU Adventure Studies Department field courses through the efficient operation of the equipment bay which includes issuing equipment, maintaining inventory, facilitating repairs, and carrying out preventative maintenance on equipment. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plan and organize equipment check-out and check-in schedules for students. This will be based on department field course scheduling. Maintain the equipment bay inventory database. Maintain vigilance regarding equipment theft and non-return of equipment. Enforce departmental equipment bay and equipment use policies. Inspect, assess, and facilitate maintenance and repairs of equipment as necessary. Plan and organize the maintenance of department vehicles. Check that vehicles are operational prior to their departure on field courses. Ensure that vehicles have current licenses, insurance and CVSE permits. Maintain a repair and maintenance log for each vehicle. Keeps equipment room clean and organized. Organize the changing of summer and winter tires as seasons change. Follow TRU administrative procedures. REPORTS TO Chair, Adventure Studies Department and Manager of Operations, Faculty of Adventure Studies, Culinary Arts and Tourism Management QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION Grade 12 plus an Adventure Sport Certificate, or equivalent post-secondary education EXPERIENCE Six months related experience in the management of adventure equipment inventory; including experience in equipment inventory management systems SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB Understanding of mountain, river and ocean based adventure sports and has a working knowledge of the equipment and logistics involved in adventure sport instruction Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences, including students, staff, public and vendors Ability to deal with staff, students, colleagues, public and external vendors with courtesy, discretion and tact Advanced computer knowledge with understanding of equipment inventory management systems Ability to inventory, repair and maintain adventure sport equipment Ability to plan and schedule the maintenance and repair of department vehicles Ability to detail department vehicles and ensure they are clean after each trip Good organizational skills in scheduling and managing Department student and staff access to the equipment inventory Unrestricted valid Class 5 Driver's license WORKING CONDITIONS Sitting at desk and computer for long periods of time Ability to lift weights in excess of 20 kg Travel required
