Environmental
Technician.
Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, the successful candidate will be involved in monitoring and testing the effluent treatment system. They will also gain exposure to a variety of other environmental requirements for our site.
You'll Do:
Be safety conscious as well as a leader in implementing a strong safety culture
Be flexible in day-to-day assignments within the department and supporting other technicians, as well as providing coverage when required
Conduct rounds of the effluent treatment system making observations, taking effluent samples, and conducting in-situ water quality analysis
Assist with stack testing including total reduced sulphur and particulate matter testing
Prepare, manage, and submit Environmental Social Governance reports and data
Be involved and assist with potable water management for water users at the plant
Assist, prepare, and submit routine submissions required by government
Be involved with the hazardous waste management at the plant
Develop skills to facilitate the management of consultants and contractors
Assist with review, interpretation, and management of environmental regulations and permits
Assist in department budget preparation and other day-to-day business functions
Assist in management of ISO 14001 environmental management system
Assist in maintaining lab equipment (HPLC, A.A. and field meters) and prepare environmental data/info
Tour the inside and outside of mill areas by walking and using elevators, stairs when necessary, and driving a vehicle to inspect mill operations, effluent treatment facility, and other inside/outside areas
Prepare data and graphs for environmental surveys and management requests
Participates in CALA Quality Assurance and Control programs and tracks certification of outside labs, and managing outside labs and couriers
Will require work outside of regular dayshift hours and shifting work schedules during plant shutdowns, maintenance works at outside areas, and when there are mill issues
Other duties as assigned
You have:
Technical certificate, diploma, or post-secondary science degree
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
High commitment to safety
Strong communication skills including technical or procedural writing
Willingness to learn and gain experience in the varying roles and responsibilities within the department
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
A valid driver’s license
Available to occasionally work evenings and weekends when required
Considered an asset:
Mill and/or heavy industry experience
Operational experience
Training in chemistry and science
Knowledge of the kraft pulp mill process
Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO)
Compensation Package:
The salary range for this position may vary depending on experience, education, and location. The range is between
$70,000 and $83,000
