The Environmental Specialist - Fieldis integral to our Environmental Division's continued growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for the outdoors coupled with experience in field data collection, safety best practices, positive attitude, and other skills necessary to succeed as an environmental consultant.
The Work
Hybrid Office (15%) / Field(85%)
Focus: Perform field and office tasks on oil & gas, pipeline, infrastructure, mining, and construction projects as part of a multi-disciplinary, virtual team.
Shifts: Field shifts, typically lasting between 2-10 days, though longer shifts may berequired. Overnight stays in hotels or camps may also be necessary.
Geographic Scope: projects are generally located in Central to Northern Alberta with potential to travel anywhere within Western Canada
Data Collection and Monitoring: Conduct environmental field data collection and construction monitoring activities.
Adverse Conditions: Be prepared to work in remote locations and challenging conditions like muddy roads, steep terrain, dense vegetation, and snowy environments.
Physical Demands: Carry field equipment such as soil sampling tools and other required gear(Up to30lb)
Technical Strength:Expertisein the following areas is required:
Wildlife sweeps (year-round identification of dens, nests, mineral licks and other key wildlife features)
Wetland/aquatic assessment
Fish salvage
Fish and fish habitat assessments
Water quality monitoring (turbidity)
Environmental inspections
Construction monitoring
Pipeline HDD
Equipment and Tools
Vehicle Operation: Drive light-duty trucks, ATVs, UTVs, and trailers. A valid drivers license isrequired.
Field Tools: Use navigational and data collection tools such as Garmin GPS,Avenza, Collector, etc.
Collaboration and Communication

Administrative and Support Tasks
Administrative Work: Complete office reporting, QA/QC, data entry, and submission of field dataon time.
Meetings and Training: Attend meetings and training sessions as needed.
Availability
Excluding vacation or allotted personal days, Field staff must be available for field work up to 20daysper month, including up to 2 weekends per month.
Excluding vacation or allotted personal days, 10-11 days offcan beanticipatedper month (i.e.,2-3 more days than other roles).
What you bring to the table
A diploma or bachelors degree in conservation biology, land reclamation, natural resource management or forestry
5-9 years of relevant experience
Electrofishing certification
Experience as a Field Lead
Intermediate level reporting abilities
Positive demeanor
The ability to liaise with clients and make professional in-field decisions.
A love for being on the road and working in both natural and construction environments is essential.
Physically fit with the ability to walk extended distances in challenging field conditions.
The Workplace:
This is a hybrid office & field position, which includes working in a virtual environment from your home office as well as 2-10 day field shifts, as the need arises.
