We are hiring an intermediate-level Environmental Regulatory Specialist to keep our infrastructure projects compliant, permitted and on schedule. You will plan and secure environmental approvals, support field crews in meeting permit conditions, and act as a trusted point of contact with regulators, clients and landowners. You will collaborate with Project Managers and environmental professionals to cost-effectively provide practical solutions to our clients.
This role suits someone with a few years of regulatory or environmental consulting experience who is ready to take ownership of permitting work on active projects and grow toward senior or lead responsibilities. You will support the day-to-day delivery of integrated environmental assessment and permitting scopes on major projects, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and support engagements with regulators and stakeholders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify, prepare and submit environmental permit, approval and authorization applications at the federal, provincial/state and municipal levels.
Track permit conditions and approval timelines, and translate them into clear requirements for construction and operations teams.
Coordinate and review environmental assessments, field surveys and technical studies (for example wildlife, vegetation, wetlands, fish habitat and watercourse crossings) completed by internal staff and third-party consultants.
Build and maintain environmental management and mitigation plans, including erosion and sediment control, spill response and species-at-risk protocols.
Conduct site inspections and compliance audits, document findings, and follow up on corrective actions until they are closed.
Prepare compliance reports, incident notifications and regulatory submissions that are accurate, complete and on time.
Monitor changes in environmental legislation and guidance, and advise project teams on the effect on scope, cost and schedule.
Support environmental training, toolbox talks and pre-construction briefings for field crews.
Maintain permit registers, regulatory tracking tools and project records.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A university degree or college diploma in environmental science, biology, geography, environmental studies or a closely related field.
3 to 5 years of experience in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance or environmental consulting, ideally on linear infrastructure, utility, energy or construction projects.
Working knowledge of environmental legislation and permitting processes, such as impact assessment, fisheries, species-at-risk, migratory bird, water and wetland regulations.
Experience preparing permit applications, environmental plans and regulatory reports.
Comfort working in the field, in varied weather and terrain, and willingness to travel to project sites.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain regulatory requirements clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Good organization and time management, with the ability to manage several projects and deadlines at once.
A valid driver's license and the ability to meet client and site safety requirements.
Nice to have: Experience with Indigenous and stakeholder engagement on permitting or construction projects.
Nice to have: Training in wetland delineation, wildlife identification, erosion and sediment control, or environmental monitoring.
Nice to have: Experience with regulatory tracking software, field data collection apps and project management tools.
