Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operationsis Canada's largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.
Role Overview

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Supervisor, Geotechnical, the Geotechnical Engineer or Engineer-in-Training is responsible for supporting the geotechnical aspects of mine planning and design through to execution, including pit expansions, slope monitoring, geotechnical investigation programs and design compliance. This position is a temporary full time 18 month role.

To be successful, we require someone with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, who can develop and communicate practical recommendations to mine planners and operations personnel. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and proven experience in overseeing and coordinating multiple internal resources and external contractors in projects. This role requires a motivated self-starter, who can multi-task effectively and work collaboratively with others in a technical team-based environment. Demonstrated experience with project management and training in Geotechnical Engineering and mine planning will be considered an asset.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to a range of engineering design management and projects in a world-class operation. There will be abundant opportunities to grow your knowledge base and apply your site-based geotechnical skills and share your expertise with a variety of Teck mine sites, and to participate in periodic Geotechnical Review Boards. Both field and office work will be required as part of the role.
The shift schedule will be a rotation of 7 days on, followed by 7 days off, 12-hour dayshift (7am to 7pm).
Key Responsibilities
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Develop and maintain relationships with both technical and operational staff
Coordinate geotechnical field programs and support geotechnical analyses and designs implementing the Life of Mine plan
Coordinate and review work by external geotechnical consultants to ensure it is fit for purpose and meets specifications, standards, and codes
Perform regular geotechnical inspections of the active and dormant mining areas, report on the inspections, and provide recommendations
Manage and compile geotechnical data, and complete interpretations and reviews
Perform stability analyses for rock slopes, waste dumps, and soil stockpiles
Communicate geotechnical risks and solutions in a safety sensitive, operational environment
Play an active role in Teck's geotechnical community of practice through ongoing collaboration with geotechnical personnel at other Teck operations and corporate engineering group
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Geological, Geotechnical, Civil or Mine Engineering
Registered, or eligible to register, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a P. Eng. or Engineer-in-Training
Zero (0) to five (5) years mining industry experience
Geotechnical experience in an open pit environment is an asset
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite® and relevant geotechnical software, such as GeoExplorer, Vulcan, AutoCAD, Slide, Dips, Swedge, RocFall, and Phase2/RS2 an asset
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Valid driver's license
Pay Range:
CAD $107,000 - $132,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
Access:
This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
