Through advanced data and modelling tools, strategic knowledge translation, and network convening, we serve as a catalyst for system change . Just beginning our third year of operation, we work with partners who hold the levers for change—federal, provincial, and territorial governments, health authorities and employers, and the health professions that serve and support our communities. Together, we are building a co-designed, co-developed approach to health workforce planning that is grounded in data, informed by evidence, and driven by collaboration. To be successful across each of our strategic priorities, we need to work with people across the health system. Building a sound and thorough engagement strategy, and executing against it, is critical to guide us in prioritizing and focusing our time and resources to build the right relationships and partnerships to meet our goals. Job Summary Reporting to the Director, Partnerships and Priority Initiatives, the Engagement Lead is responsible for developing and executing an engagement strategy for the organization, and moving forward the deliverables outlined in the strategy. This position will lead and support cross-functional teams in the development, coordination and delivery of an ongoing program of engagement and the development of the Health Workforce Canada Connects Symposium planned for May 2027. Duties and Responsibilities The Engagement Lead will develop and implement tactics to ensure awareness and impact for HWC through collaborative work with HWC’s internal and external partners. In particular, the Lead will: Develop, coordinate and deliver an ongoing program of engagement, including creating the organization’s engagement strategy, advising on a strategic approach to stakeholder segmentation and engagement, and developing strategies and approaches for effective engagement of audiences aligned to the strategic plan. Identify, lead and manage engagement strategies, approaches and opportunities. Support, steward and build relationships with stakeholders, partners and staff to deepen their understanding of HWC’s impact. Design smart, innovative engagement approaches to create ongoing conversation with stakeholders. Manage all aspects of large events for the organization including the HWC Connects Symposium , including budgets, overall program development including themes and objectives, content creation, speaker identification, and be the primary contact with a contracted event management company to coordinate logistics and execution of the event. Support the establishment of symposium sponsorship strategies and identify potential sponsors. Oversee HWC’s participation and support of external conferences and events, working with the Communications Lead to ensure HWC’s brand is clear and appropriately represented, and work is aligned to HWC strategic priorities. Contribute to HWC communications planning and ensure links and alignment with the Engagement strategy plan. Ensure HWC leaders have the content required to execute engagements with external stakeholders, developing content as required. In consultation with the organization’s Indigenous Lead, provides input and/or guidance with respect to HWC’s commitment to authentic Indigenous engagement. Support the development of formal partnership agreements that may be required from time to time, as part of HWC’s engagement strategy. Contribute to the operations and promotion of Health Workforce Canada through participation on internal and external committees, presentations and/or attendance at conferences and other activities, as required. Prepare and manage consulting and other contracts in the delivery of the work and manage associated contract to budget and timelines. Manage competing priorities, deadlines and inputs from multiple internal teams and external stakeholders. Track, monitor and report on HWC stakeholder work; adjust strategy and take corrective actions as required. Regularly evaluate engagement activities and events and implements new ideas for changes and improvement. Knowledge and Experience Ability to forge, manage and maintain long standing stakeholder relationships. Proven creative and innovating thinking skills. Strong communication skills including experience in developing and delivering presentations to large groups. Extensive engagement experience in the healthcare sector. Experience in program and content development for large events/conferences/symposiums. Experience in managing committees and contracted vendors. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to achieve organizational and program objectives. Analytical skills with ability to use judgment for strategic thinking and problem solving. Proven organizational abilities and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure. Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and customer service skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with a diverse employee population. 5-7 years of leadership experience, and a strong record of successful team engagement and project/contract management. Strong understanding of Canada's Health Workforce environment and the range of stakeholders in the human resources ecosystem. Solid understanding of Canada's broader health system structure, federal provincial governments, and decision maker information needs. Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, facilitation and presentation skills. Experience in managing multiple complex projects. Strong organizational and time management skills and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to lead and work collaboratively within a matrixed team environment.
