Function:
The successful candidate will support the implementation of STEM and innovative education initiatives aligned with the HWCDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan and Board Student Achievement Plan. Working under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Education, the teacher will provide instructional leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and innovation while promoting the ethical and pedagogical use of artificial intelligence in elementary classrooms.
Description:
The successful candidate will:
Collaborate with Board leadership and consultants to provide professional learning for K–8 educators in STEM subjects grounded in Catholic values and a commitment to excellence in education aligned with Board priorities and the Multi-Year Strategic Plan;
Support schools in designing and implementing experiential learning opportunities that are hands-on, curriculum-aligned, and connected to real-world contexts, including STEM, skilled trades, and community-based learning experiences
Lead teaching and learning within the STEM Lab at the Nicholas Mancini Centre by designing and delivering high-impact, hands-on learning experiences using hand tools and various technologies, including 3D printing, providing students with access to learning opportunities not typically available in classrooms
Support educators in leveraging AI to inform planning, assessment, and instruction within inquiry-based and cross-curricular learning, while promoting safe, ethical, and developmentally appropriate use of digital tools, grounded in Catholic teachings
Design and implement inclusive, differentiated programming that supports diverse learners across all levels, ensuring equitable access to experiential, curriculum-aligned learning opportunities and promoting student success through responsive instructional practices
Support Grades 7 and 8 Pathway development by building awareness and readiness for the mandatory Grade 9 Technology course and coordinating and strengthening partnerships with post-secondary institutions and industry to bring real-world experiences into classrooms
Provide system-wide support to administrators, educators, support staff, and students in the installation, configuration, and network connectivity of 3D printing technologies, while developing capacity in engineering design and curriculum-aligned applications
Co-lead large-scale experiential learning initiatives, including the HWCDSB Elementary Skills Competition by designing and facilitating hands-on, system-wide learning experiences, supporting teacher and student preparation across schools and developing resources;
Collaborate with elementary schools to support the development and participation of FLL robotics and elementary Skills Ontario competitions;
Encourage the integration of Indigenous knowledges and equity-based perspectives in STEM focused instruction;
Promote school and family engagement by supporting STEM nights, parent outreach opportunities, and Ministry-supported STEM initiatives;
Contribute to the development of teacher resources and lead system-wide PD related to STEM and AI-enhanced learning; and,
Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.

Qualifications
(Applicants

possess
the
following
as

Membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Minimum of 5 years of successful permanent elementary teaching experience
Experience at leading media presentations and/or professional learning; and,
Competency in various technologies related to classroom instruction.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Integration of Information and Computer Technology in Instruction, Part 1
Expertise in the Ontario Science & Technology curriculum (2022), including the integration of coding
Experience leading or supporting innovation in education, STEM initiatives, or school-based technology programming
Understanding of current research in AI and its classroom applications, such as adaptive tools, creative content generation, and personalized learning
Familiarity with board-supported tools and platforms (e.g., Office 365, myClass LMS, MS CoPilot, Scratch, Canva, etc.) including proficiency in 3D printing use and application
Experience in robotics programming or facilitating school robotics teams (e.g.,
FIRST
Lego League FLL and
FIRST
Tech Challenge FTC)
Strong communication, leadership, and coaching skills
Demonstrated understanding of Catholic education and the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations
Experience designing and facilitating adult professional learning
