Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Mechanical/Electrical Cost Consultant Job Description This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career mechanical or electrical cost consultant to develop expertise in estimating and cost management. You will contribute to mechanical and electrical cost estimates across multiple sectors, with a strong focus on federal, defense, and healthcare projects, while being coached and supported within a national centre of excellence for M&E cost consulting. Responsibilities Coordinate with and supervise other estimators working on specific assignments to ensure consistent and accurate cost outputs. Actively participate in working sessions with clients and project stakeholders, clearly presenting and explaining cost estimates and assumptions. Measure and quantify various types of projects from construction plans and drawings, including preparing detailed schedules of quantities. Quantify materials and prepare cost estimates in accordance with recognized Rules of Measurement and best practice standards. Develop cost estimates at various stages of the design and construction process, from early concept through detailed design and construction. Assess and analyze cost changes between estimate stages and compare them with costs from similar or benchmark projects. Price and analyze different construction methods, stages, and types to support informed decision-making and value optimization. Support and follow Quality Control and Quality Assurance protocols to maintain consistency, accuracy, and compliance with standards in all deliverables. Essential Skills Diploma or degree in cost estimation or a closely related discipline. Entry-level knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems relevant to construction projects. Ability to read and interpret construction plans and drawings to perform accurate measurements and quantity takeoffs. Capability to prepare detailed schedules of quantities and quantify materials for cost estimating purposes. Familiarity with cost estimating practices aligned with Rules of Measurement and industry best practices. Strong analytical skills to assess, compare, and interpret costs across different estimate stages and projects. Effective communication skills to present and explain cost estimates to clients and project stakeholders. Eligibility for Secret Level Clearance as required for work on sensitive projects. Knowledge of or ability to work in alignment with CIQS standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Interest in developing a career in mechanical and electrical cost consulting within a national centre of excellence. Motivation to learn from coaching and mentoring in a structured professional environment. Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across multiple sectors, including federal, defense, and healthcare. Attention to detail and commitment to supporting rigorous Quality Control and Quality Assurance processes. Work Environment This position operates in a hybrid work environment, combining remote work with in-office collaboration. You will be part of a national centre of excellence for mechanical and electrical cost consulting and will support projects across multiple sectors, including federal, defense, and healthcare. The role involves regular interaction with project teams and stakeholders in a professional office and virtual meeting setting, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.
