Qualifications Preference will be given to practicing Catholics A Grade 12 diploma from a provincially recognized institution One year of post-secondary training in a program such as Early Childhood Development, Teacher Assistant, Youth Worker or Rehabilitation Worker or equivalent post-secondary education in a related area from a provincially recognized institution is considered to be a strong asset. Educational Assistants shall possess knowledge that is basic to this occupation. Required areas of knowledge include: cultural awareness, interpersonal communication, supporting instruction, family dynamics, health, roles and responsibilities of an educational assistant and their relationship with teachers and other professionals, behaviour theories and their use in managing behaviour, basic care skills, self-protection strategies, understanding individuals with exceptionalities. A valid driver’s license Proficient with technology Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Be able to work independently and take initiative within the scope of authority delegated Duties and Responsibilities Work with classroom teachers in providing individual and group assistance Implement strategies and techniques and assist with general classroom management in accordance with school guidelines Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to a Catholic educational institute that provides service to children, dealing tactfully with staff, students, parents and the public in a manner that is respectful of Catholic morals and values Promote an atmosphere of respect for children and adults Collaborate and work with volunteers and staff, participating in other duties and special projects as assigned Compliance with Ministry of Education and Justice confidentiality standards Applications must include a cover letter, resume, an up-to-date criminal record check (within the last 6 months) and your three most recent professional references (include an email address for each reference).
