Position Responsibilities
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Educational Assistant to support students enrolled in the
Life and Employment Skills for Independence Certificate | Red Deer Polytechnic (
LESI )
certificate program. LESI is a one‑year, non‑credit program designed for learners with developmental disabilities, focusing on social development, independent living, and employment readiness through classroom learning and hands‑on experiences.
Reporting to the LESI Program Coordinator and working closely with instructors and a multidisciplinary team, you’ll play a vital role in fostering an inclusive and empowering learning environment.
Position is based upon enrollment and funding.
Required Qualifications
Support learners during classroom instruction across LESI’s three terms: social/personal development, independent living, and employment readiness
Assist in experiential learning activities including life-skills workshops, digital literacy labs, and practicum planning
Provide one-on-one and small group academic, behavioural, and emotional support tailored to individual needs
Support students during practical components: volunteer experiences, work experience placements, and simulated workplace tasks
Aid in goal setting and track student progress on independence, employability, and personal development milestones
Collaborate with instructors, practicum supervisors, and community partners to ensure cohesive programming
Actively promote an inclusive, respectful, and empowering environment during campus activities and residential stays
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of the Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent training; familiarity with LESI curriculum is an asset
Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or special needs in educational or support settings.
Experience supporting learners in classroom, residential, or community living contexts.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
Ability to adapt instructional methods and support strategies to diverse learning styles.
Reliable, patient, observant, and capable of fostering positive learning environments.
Skilled in behaviour management, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques.
Certification or willingness to obtain First Aid and WHMIS training.
Must be 18+, with high school completion (or equivalent); post‑secondary EA certification is preferred
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for community-based activities
