Position Overview
The Divisional Vice President, Finance at Holt Renfrew leads the company's financial operations, overseeing accounting, tax, external reporting, treasury, financial transactions, and vendor relationships across all legal entities. This senior leadership role reports directly to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee accounting operations and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and timely in accordance with IFRS.
Lead the preparation of the annual statutory financial statements and manage the external audit process, including presentation to the Audit Committee.
Produce the monthly internal management information package for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
Provide guidance on accounting matters, including systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting.
Lead the balance‑sheet and cash‑flow budgeting and forecasting process.
Ensure compliance with all tax authorities, either directly or through tax specialists.
Maintain effective controls over financial reporting and support the ongoing enhancement of financial control systems to protect company assets and ensure accurate reporting.
Oversee treasury functions: cash flow, liquidity, working capital, cash‑management policies, banking relationships, and covenant compliance.
Manage foreign‑currency exposure and undertake financial transaction services.
Lead accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales audit, and vendor/customer data maintenance teams to ensure integrity, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of customer payments.
Implement and enforce effective procedures and controls over payment processes to safeguard assets and pay vendors promptly.
Act as gatekeeper for vendor payment terms and oversee the Holt Renfrew Vendor Reference Manual and Vendor Terms Card for merchandise vendor partners.
Manage vendor compliance and non‑compliance issues.
Collaborate with other business areas on strategic initiatives and system changes to align financial controls and accounting requirements with company goals.
Serve as a member and Treasurer of the Holt Renfrew pension committee, ensuring financial statements are completed and filed in compliance with regulations.
Treasurer for the Property company, overseeing general financial oversight, budget development, cash management, reporting, and financial policies.
Lead, motivate, train and retain a high‑performing team of over 30 employees through five direct reports.
Support leadership and the parent company on ad‑hoc financial requests.
Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety policies and requirements.
Key Qualifications
Post‑secondary degree in a related field and a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA preferred).
15+ years of progressive finance experience, with a minimum of 10+ years in a leadership and people‑management role.
Strong technical accounting skills and working knowledge of IFRS policies, including revenue recognition, impairment assessment, and lease accounting.
Ability to develop sustainable and efficient solutions and to think beyond basic accounting to understand operational impacts.
Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills, with a track record of driving high‑performance, fact‑based, metrics‑driven teams.
Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity and change.
Experience setting priorities, developing work/program schedules, monitoring quality, and reporting outcomes to stakeholders.
Proficiency in accounting software (SAP) and advanced computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Result‑driven, ambitious, with strong initiative, reliability, and excellent problem‑solving abilities.
Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Passion for fashion and luxury retailing.
