Description
Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Disability Advisor to oversee Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) claims. In this role, you will be responsible for initial adjudication, ongoing case management, and supporting clients through recovery and return-to-work planning. You’ll collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver fair, timely, and well-informed decisions while ensuring a high standard of client care.
What You’ll Be Doing
Adjudicate Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability claims in a timely and accurate manner
Apply policy provisions and industry regulations, including CLHIA guidelines, to all decisions
Develop, implement, and evaluate effective case management strategies
Monitor treatment plans, rehabilitation progress, and return-to-work programs
Ensure accurate and timely benefit payments
Communicate clearly and professionally (written and verbal) with claimants, employers, healthcare providers, and internal teams
Manage a portfolio of claims and develop subject matter expertise on assigned groups
Collaborate cross-functionally with Medical Underwriting, Group Underwriting, Sales, Group Administration, and Accounting to exchange information related to claims, eligibility, and financials
What You Must Have
Degree or diploma in a health-related field (e.g., Nursing, Kinesiology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Social Work) is an asset
Experience in disability claims management or a related field
Strong understanding of the insurance benefits industry (preferred)
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions, especially under pressure
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
High level of flexibility, independence, and innovation
Ability to manage relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Nice to Have:
Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) designation
Enrollment in LOMA or other industry-related courses
