Our client services the construction and buildings sector. They are looking for a Director of Finance who will be responsible for accounting and controllership expertise to lead the accounting and finance function in a growing, operationally complex environment.
This role is ideal for an someone who has recently stepped into a Director role (or is a senior Controller operating at that level), thrives in imperfect systems, and is motivated by ownership, influence, and growth.
You will own the full accounting function, strengthen controls and processes, and partner closely with operations and senior leadership to support continued scale.

About the Opportunity
Financial Leadership and Responsibilities
Lead and manage the finance and accounting team, including Controllership, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and external resources as applicable
Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency
Ensure accuracy of monthly financial results at the Group, Divisional and Branch levels
Direct all aspects of accounting, including but not limited to revenue recognition, inventory, WIP, receivables, payables, and fixed assets
Develop and maintain all necessary accounting policies; seen as the subject matter expert in accounting
Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with ASPE and GAAP
Controls, Compliance, and Risk
Design, implement, and continuously improve internal controls to protect company assets and mitigate risk of error and fraud
Lead all accounting and corporate tax compliance activities, coordinating with external advisors on corporate tax filings, review engagements, and other projects
Monitor compliance with federal, provincial, and regulatory requirements relevant to the business
Manage relationships with auditors, and other service providers
Process Improvement and Systems
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through process redesign, automation, and system enhancements
Work effectively within evolving systems, driving efficiencies through improvements
Partner on future system implementations or upgrades as the business scales
Leadership and Collaboration
Mentor and develop the team (currently 3 direct reports), building team capacity, bench strength and technical capability
Manage and direct team priorities to ensure delivery of critical objectives while supporting the changing needs of the organization
Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, and Executive Leadership to support business objectives
Lead financial integration of acquired companies
Act as a trusted finance partner who knows the details and is willing to roll up their sleeves
About You
CPA designation required (CPA-CA preferred)
7–10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including:
Corporate Controller and/or Director of Finance roles
Strong full-cycle accounting background
Approximately 1–2 years at the Director level, or a Controller operating at that scope
Experience in a growing, entrepreneurial, or operationally complex business (field services, industrial, construction, or project-based environments strongly valued)
Salary Range
$150,000 - $175,000/year
