Employment Type: Permanent Location: FinDev Canada headquarters is in downtown Montreal. Compensation Details Grade 21: Salaries typically range from $150,715 $200,953 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive. Team Overview Reporting to the VP & Chief Legal & Enterprise Integration Officer, the Director, Legal Transactions works closely with colleagues in Investments, Impact Enablement, other advisory teams and across the organization in understanding the client’s needs, structuring solutions which address those needs, assessing risk and recommending risk mitigation strategies, as appropriate. The Director and their team are expected to maintain and develop excellent client and partner relationships to support the growth of FinDev Canada’s portfolio and deliver timely and insightful advice to the business. As part of a fast-growing organization, and as part of the leadership team, the successful candidate will be expected to play a key role in the evolution and continuous improvement of FinDev Canada’s practices and processes. What You Will Be Doing Direct & Evaluate Legal Transactions Team : Oversee the provision of transactional legal services in support of FinDev Canada’s mandate. Lead, hire, motivate, train, manage, develop, and empower an effective team. Perform regular performance assessments and annual salary reviews. Direct the performance and skill/career development of assigned teams. Foster a Positive Work Environment: Provide leadership and guidance to employees. Foster an environment of respect, collaborative teamwork, and open communication. Enable a continuous learning environment and identify ways to strengthen the team’s capabilities. Set Objectives and Priorities : Establish team objectives. Facilitate setting short-term priorities for team members with respect to daily activities. Advise and Collaborate : Advise the VP & Chief Legal & Enterprise Integration Officer on a wide range of issues. Assist in managing team resources (human, budgetary, and technological) and workflows. Provide continued advice and guidance on the mandate and other key legislative and policy requirements. Represent the Organization : Represent FinDev Canada to various stakeholders such as clients, external counsel, suppliers, government and Crown bodies, financial institutions, and multilateral agencies. Risk Management and Problem Solving: Provide resolution of business or technical issues by identifying solutions and recommending a course of action. Ensure proper risk mitigation measures are in place through broad corporate perspective and influence. What We Are Looking For Completed undergraduate degree in Law or related discipline Minimum 15 years’ relevant legal experience Minimum 5 or more years’ experience in people leadership or coaching and mentoring individuals Minimum 5 or more years’ experience working in a national or international development finance institution (DFI) Demonstrated experience influencing internal and external stakeholders Proven experience providing legal advice with respect to products and programs including portfolio product offerings Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills Excellent negotiation and risk mitigation skills Excellent written and oral communication skills, including drafting Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills Language Profile: Strong preference for fluency in both official languages (English & French) or Spanish What Will Make You Stand Out Experience in financial crimes and/or risk mitigation Expert knowledge of risk management principles and practices Ready to make a difference?
