Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Design Engineer Location: Orangeville, ON Employment Type: Direct Hire (12 Months) Industry: Machinery Manufacturing Schedule: 40 Hours/Week 1st Shift About the Opportunity: Design custom industrial equipment and mechanical assemblies from initial customer requirements through to complete, production-ready drawing packages. Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including 3D models, drawings, bills of materials, and revision-controlled records. Collaborate across sales, operations, and service teams to deliver practical, manufacturable solutions and support continuous product improvement. Why You'll Love Working Here: Supportive, team-driven culture that values collaboration, transparency, and accountability. Opportunity to grow your career with a global workforce solutions leader serving multiple industries. People-first environment that encourages employees to bring their authentic selves to work. Strong focus on partnership, innovation, and delivering meaningful results for clients and candidates. Why This Opportunity is Exciting: This role offers the chance to join a company that prioritises both people and performance—where your contributions directly impact client success while giving you room to grow and develop professionally. About Acara Solutions Acara is a premier recruiting and workforce solutions provider-we help companies compete for talent. With a legacy of experience in various industries worldwide, we partner with clients, listen to their needs, and customize visionary talent solutions that drive desired business outcomes. We leverage decades of experience to deliver contingent staffing, direct placement, executive search, and workforce services worldwide. Sound like a good fit? APPLY TODAY What You'll Do: Engineering Design Develop detailed 3D models and production drawings for custom shot blast equipment and mechanical assemblies using Autodesk Inventor. Produce complete drawing packages including bills of materials, tolerancing, weld callouts, and fabrication notes — ready for the shop floor without hand-holding. Scope and design solutions based on customer application requirements in collaboration with the sales and operations teams. Manage design revisions and maintain an accurate, organized drawing library — revision control is not optional here. Continuously look for design efficiencies — standardized components, reduced lead times, improved manufacturability. Product & Standards Development Contribute to the development and refinement of our standard OEM product line — driving consistency, quality, and competitive design. Support the quoting process with realistic design estimates and timelines — you understand scope before committing. Work with the operations team to document design standards and create reusable reference material as the company scales. ERP & Drawing Control Own part and assembly revision control within CETEC — every design change is reflected accurately in the ERP before it reaches the shop or the customer. Ensure part records, BOMs, and drawing revisions in CETEC are kept current and synchronized with the active drawing package — discrepancies between the ERP and the drawing are your responsibility to catch and resolve. Work closely with the operations team to maintain data integrity across purchasing, production, and service — clean ERP data is non-negotiable at Surface Technologies. Field & Reverse Engineering Travel to customer sites to physically assess and measure worn or obsolete components that require replacement — you're comfortable working on the floor of an active industrial facility. Reverse engineer components where original drawings do not exist — take field measurements, produce accurate models and drawings in Autodesk Inventor, and get parts back into production. Document reverse-engineered parts properly — new drawings enter the library, part records are created in CETEC, and the knowledge stays with the company, not with one person. Cross-Functional Support Support field service and parts teams with technical documentation and design clarification — your drawings go into the field, so you own the accuracy. Flag issues early — design conflicts, missing information, or supplier gaps. We solve problems before they become site problems. Model the core values in every interaction — with the team, with suppliers, and with customers when the work calls for it. What You'll Bring: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technology 3+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment — you've built things and you know what it takes to make a design manufacturable. What Sets You Apart: Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor — complex assemblies, iParts/iAssemblies, and clean drawing packages without being walked through them. Strong working knowledge of fabrication processes, including welding, machining, and structural assembly — you understand how your design will actually be built. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T. Highly self-directed — you manage your own workload, flag blockers early, and don't need someone standing over your shoulder to deliver quality. Experience with shot blast, surface preparation, or heavy industrial equipment If you've designed conveyor systems, agricultural equipment, or fabricated assemblies, the technical foundation translates. Additional Information: Upon offer of employment, the individual will be subject to a background check.
