Role Overview
The Derivative Operations Analyst (Intern/Co-op) supports the end-to-end lifecycle of OTC derivative transactions within Global Markets. This role provides exposure to trade processing, confirmations, settlements, and reconciliation activities, working closely with Front Office, Operations, and external counterparties. The position offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced capital markets environment, with a strong focus on data accuracy, process discipline, and risk awareness.
Key Responsibilities
Trade Support & Validation
Assist in validating trade bookings to ensure accuracy and completeness
Support reconciliations across systems to identify and investigate discrepancies
Help ensure trades are correctly captured for downstream processing
Take measured risks while protecting the bank by applying our Risk Management Framework in the execution of your role, in line with our Risk Culture and within our approved Risk Appetite, making sound and risk informed decisions that align to business strategy, protect assets, and adhere to applicable policy documents (Frameworks, Policies, Standards, Procedures and Supporting documents), laws and regulations.
Confirmations & Lifecycle Support
Assist with drafting and tracking OTC derivative confirmations
Monitor outstanding confirmations and support follow-up with counterparties
Maintain accurate records of trade status and documentation
Settlement & Payment Processing
Support settlement affirmation activities with counterparties
Assist in verifying cash flows and ensuring transactions are processed accurately
Help investigate and resolve basic settlement breaks and exceptions
Reconciliation & Reporting
Support daily reconciliation processes to identify unmatched trades or discrepancies
Assist in investigating and resolving breaks with guidance from senior team members
Help prepare operational and management reporting
Stakeholder Coordination
Work with Front Office, Operations, and internal teams to support issue resolution
Communicate clearly on trade status, exceptions, and outstanding items
Build relationships across teams to support effective trade lifecycle management
Process Improvement & Learning
Participate in process improvement and automation initiatives
Identify opportunities to streamline tasks or improve data quality
Learn core derivatives lifecycle processes and control frameworks
Qualifications:
Education
As a full-time employee, we would require 3-5 years of experience, however as part of the BMO campus program, we are looking for motivated individuals with a strong desire to learn.
Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or a related field

Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with financial markets is an asset

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
