GOAPRDJP00000921 – Senior Data Architect Client: Government of Alberta – Environment & Protected Areas (EPA) Location: Alberta, Canada (Hybrid Remote) Duration: 12 Months Extension Possible Positions: 3 Work Hours: 36.25 Hours/Week Closing Date: May 21, 2026 Job Overview The Government of Alberta is seeking an experienced Senior Data Architect to support the enhancement of the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) within Environment & Protected Areas (EPA). This role is ideal for a senior-level architect with strong experience in enterprise data architecture, regulatory reporting systems, analytics-ready data modeling, and large-scale government or enterprise IT environments. The successful candidate will work within a high-performing Agile team and play a key role in designing standardized enterprise data structures, optimizing regulatory monitoring templates, and enabling advanced analytics and future machine learning initiatives using modern cloud and data platforms. Key Responsibilities 1. Enterprise Data Architecture & Modeling Design, plan, implement, and support enterprise-scale solution databases. Develop and maintain enterprise data models and canonical business objects. Define authoritative business definitions, attributes, and relationships across regulatory systems. Rationalize and standardize reporting templates to reduce duplication and improve data consistency. Establish enterprise data standards including: Data grain definitions Attribute consistency Versioning and traceability Historical audit structures Translate conceptual and logical data models into engineering-ready technical specifications. 2. Regulatory & Monitoring Data Transformation Convert manual and upload-based reporting templates into analytics-ready data structures. Design: Fact tables Dimension tables Monitoring event structures Regulatory data schemas Support ingestion standards, transformation logic, and enterprise data quality rules. Review implementation alignment against canonical data architecture. 3. Advanced Analytics & Databricks Readiness Design scalable data structures supporting: Trend analysis Aggregation and rollups Predictive analytics Machine learning use cases Anomaly detection Balance normalization and denormalization strategies for governance and performance optimization. Support schema evolution and future reporting enhancements with minimal disruption. 4. Architecture Governance & Leadership Apply enterprise architecture principles, standards, and best practices. Maintain documentation of architecture decisions and rationale. Provide technical leadership, planning, estimation, and solution presentations. Collaborate with analysts, engineers, architects, and business stakeholders in Agile sprint environments. Mandatory Requirements Education College Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field. Degree/certificate must be attached to the resume submission. Required Experience Candidates must demonstrate: 8 years of experience designing, planning, implementing, and supporting enterprise solution databases in large enterprise environments. 8 years of experience documenting enterprise solution databases. 8 years of experience applying enterprise architecture principles, standards, tools, policies, and best practices. 8 years of experience working as a Data Architect within enterprise IT environments comparable in complexity to the Government of Alberta. Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience TOGAF Certification (must be attached to resume if available) 5 years designing and implementing enterprise architecture database plans and models 5 years experience with Microsoft Power BI or enterprise BI tools 3 years experience performing threat and risk assessments and presenting mitigation strategies 3 years experience managing Agile sprint-based application development projects 2 years experience using architecture/modeling tools such as: PowerDesigner ER Studio ERwin BPwin Rational Rose Experience providing leadership, planning, estimation, and technical presentations Work Environment Primarily remote within Alberta Occasional in-office meetings (approximately once per month) Standard hours: Monday to Friday 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM Alberta Time Travel expenses will not be reimbursed Additional Information Equipment Contractor must provide their own computer and office equipment. Windows OS preferred for Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) compatibility. Background Check Criminal record check may be required prior to project start.
