ABOUT US
At Planitar, we build technology that helps people see and understand the world’s spaces more clearly.
We are the creators of iGUIDE, a powerful property technology solution that combines immersive 3D tours, accurate floor plans and reliable spatial data into a single, easy-to-use system. Our cameras and software platform are used by professionals in real estate, insurance, construction and property management to simplify their work and deliver better results.
Planitar recently joined REA Group, one of the world’s leading digital property companies. REA operates Australia’s largest residential and commercial property platforms, including realestate.com.au and has a growing global footprint across Asia and North America. Together, we are shaping the future of property technology, combining Planitar’s deep spatial data expertise with REA’s global scale and innovation engine.
We work in a hybrid environment headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario and are growing quickly as we expand our impact worldwide.
OUR VISION
A connected future where reliable spatial data enables informed decisions across the property lifecycle.
We believe that accurate, accessible spatial data has the power to transform how people buy, sell, insure, build and manage property.
OUR VALUES
Our values guide how we work, build and grow together.
Integrity: We do the right thing, even when it’s hard.
Teamwork: We are one team, on a big mission.
Innovation: We value creative solutions for emerging opportunities.
Accountability: We honour our commitments.
We operate in the proptech space, where high-accuracy measurement data from cameras, LiDAR, and other sensors becomes the floor plans, virtual tours, and spatial products our customers rely on. Our data lake brings that sensor data together with application and operational data from across the business, and we're looking for a Data Architect to shape how it all fits together.
You'll own the architecture and direction of our data platform — making the calls on ingestion, storage, modeling, and access that determine how well the rest of the company can build on our data. You'll partner closely with our cloud platform team, full-stack engineers, and stakeholders across product, ML, and operations, and you'll have the scope to define standards and practices that a growing data function will be built around. This is a role for someone who's done this before at meaningful scale and wants to set direction, not just execute against it.
What you'll do
Define the architecture and long-term direction of our data platform — ingestion pipelines, lakehouse design, schema and access patterns — and make the build-vs-buy, tool-selection, and trade-off calls that shape it
Establish the standards and practices that future data hires will build on, from schema design to data quality to pipeline reliability
Partner with stakeholders across the organization to bring new data sources into the platform and shape how that data is modeled for downstream use
Design, build, and operate systems across our stack:
Backend: Python
Infrastructure: PostgreSQL, AWS S3, Kafka, Terraform
Lakehouse: Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery (or similar)
Lead architecture discussions and roadmap planning; raise the bar for engineers working with data across the company through design review and day-to-day collaboration
Drive performance and cost optimization as a first-class concern, not an afterthought
What we're looking for
Significant hands-on experience designing and operating production data platforms at scale — you've made the architectural decisions, lived with the consequences, and know what you'd do differently
Deep fluency with a modern data stack (streaming ingestion, lakehouse or warehouse, orchestration, IaC) and strong backend engineering chops in Python, or a comparable language
Track record of setting technical direction and influencing decisions beyond your immediate team — you're comfortable being the person others look to for the call
Strong product instincts: you ask why a dataset matters before you ask how to store it, and you translate ambiguous business problems into durable technical solutions
Comfort with ambiguity and the judgment to know when to formalize versus when to stay flexible — especially valuable in a role that's defining the shape of things
Bonus points for
Experience with spatial or geometric data at volume, and the schema, latency, and storage challenges that come with it
Experience across mobile, hardware, and web product surfaces
Deep AWS + Terraform background
Strong CI/CD and platform engineering instincts
