About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established North American manufacturer is seeking a
Customs Coordinator
to manage cross-border shipments and ensure full compliance with Canadian import regulations.This role is ideal for someone with experience in customs, freight forwarding, or cross-border logistics who thrives in a detail-focused, process-driven environment.
Role Overview
The
Customs Coordinator
is responsible for the compliant import of equipment from U.S. facilities into Canada. This includes preparing documentation, liaising with brokers and carriers, tracking shipments, and resolving customs clearance issues.This position plays a key role in ensuring shipments move efficiently across the U.S.–Canada border while meeting all regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare, review, and submit import documentation (commercial invoices, bills of lading, manifests, etc.)
Ensure all shipments comply with Canadian customs and trade regulations
Maintain accurate records for audit and compliance purposes
Monitor regulatory updates and adjust processes as required
Clearance & Coordination
Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and internal teams
Coordinate cross-border trucking and shipment logistics
Track shipments and provide timely updates on status and ETAs
Resolve customs delays, discrepancies, and documentation issues
Troubleshoot customs delays, discrepancies, or clearance concerns
Operational Support
Process invoicing, billing adjustments, and related documentation
Maintain shipment data within internal systems
Support reporting and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Experience in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, or cross-border logistics required
Knowledge of Canadian import regulations and cross-border shipping processes
Familiarity with HTS codes and customs documentation
Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills
Experience with customs/logistics software considered an asset
High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Bachelor’s degree is an asset with 2+ years of related experience required
