A highly regarded national law firm is seeking an experienced Corporate / Commercial Solicitor to join its Calgary office.
This opportunity is ideal for an entrepreneurial lawyer with a
partial portable book of business
who is looking to grow their practice on a collaborative national platform. The firm combines the resources and capabilities of a full-service national practice with the accessibility, flexibility, and collegial culture of a close-knit office.
Existing work is available across several key practice areas, making this an excellent opportunity for a lawyer who can complement that workflow with an established client base while continuing to build their practice.
Practice Focus
The successful candidate will advise clients on a broad range of solicitor-side matters, including:
Corporate and commercial transactions
Banking and finance
Commercial real estate
Mergers and acquisitions
Franchise law
Tax-related transactions and corporate reorganizations
General business advisory services
Key Responsibilities
Manage and grow an existing portfolio of corporate and commercial clients
Advise private businesses, lenders, investors, developers, and entrepreneurs
Draft and negotiate commercial agreements and transactional documents
Lead financing, acquisition, reorganization, and commercial real estate transactions
Build and strengthen long-term client relationships
Collaborate with lawyers across the firm's national platform to deliver comprehensive legal solutions
Participate in business development and community engagement initiatives
Qualifications
5-10+ years of solicitor-side experience
Strong background in corporate and commercial law
Experience in banking and finance, commercial real estate, mergers and acquisitions, franchising, and/or tax-related matters
Partial portable book of business preferred
Demonstrated ability to independently manage sophisticated transactions
Strong client relationship and business development skills
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication abilities
Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
Compensation
The firm offers flexible compensation structures designed to support experienced lawyers at different stages of practice, including Associate, Of Counsel, Non-Equity Partner, and Equity Partner arrangements. Compensation combines production- and origination-based incentives with flexible draw or base salary options, depending on the role. The structure is designed to reward business development, client service, and long-term practice growth. Details will be discussed confidentially with qualified candidates.
