Reporting to the Plant Superintendent, the Water Treatment Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, supporting, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the site’s various water treatment processes. He or she will lead the team of water treatment technicians and operators and will be responsible for monitoring and optimizing the performance of treatment processes to ensure compliance with environmental effluent standards and the sustainability of operations. The work schedule will consist of seven (7) consecutive workdays followed by seven (7) days off (7/7), with occasional visits to the Montreal office during the project.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead and develop teams of water treatment technicians and operators by fostering a culture of health, safety, and performance;
• Provide technical leadership for mine water treatment applications, including commissioning and ongoing operational support;
• Effectively allocate resources to meet treatment objectives and maintain quality standards;
• Oversee reagent management, coordination with production, and budgetary activities at the water treatment plant;
• Coordinate seasonal water management and prepare water treatment plants for various water management scenarios on-site;
• Support problem-solving, continuous improvement, and process optimization initiatives to ensure environmental compliance and performance;
• Develop and implement water treatment optimization strategies to maximize efficiency;
• Monitor and analyze process data to identify trends, resolve issues, and pinpoint opportunities for improvement;
• Contribute to long-term planning and project development to support the company’s growth: set priorities, assign tasks, ensure staffing and training, and conduct performance evaluations;
• Prepare technical reports, operational budgets, procurement documents, and presentations for management and stakeholders;
• Support environmental management through water balance analysis, reagent optimization, and sustainable process practices;
• Serve as a technical resource, mentor, and advocate for excellence in water treatment across all operations;
• Ensure compliance with all safety, health, environmental, and regulatory requirements at every stage of treatment operations;
• Perform any other duties related to the Water Treatment Coordinator position that are relevant to the project’s success
Required Qualifications
• Hold a college certificate in water treatment or equivalent training;
• Have more than (5) years of relevant experience in a mining or industrial setting and in managing industrial water treatment operations, preferably in a mining context;
• Have a minimum of (3) years of team management experience
• Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license;
• Fluency in French required
• Basic proficiency in spoken and written English
Technical Skills
• Experience implementing best practices and continuous improvement;
• Excellent knowledge of industrial water treatment processes, ideally in a mining environment:
• pH adjustment and neutralization;
• Coagulation and flocculation;
• Treatment of metals in solution by precipitation;
• Solid-liquid separation using DAF, Geotube, weighted flocculation, fabric filters, or other technologies;
• Biological treatment of nitrogen compounds, including nitrification and denitrification;
• Drinking water treatment, including filtration, UV disinfection, and chlorine dosing;
• Good knowledge of the mining industry, industry practices, and technical advancements;
• Excellent knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to mining sites;
• Experience in data and process analysis (financial and operational);
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
