The Controller will play a key role in strengthening financial systems, improving reporting, and supporting operational decision-making across multiple business lines.
The Opportunity
Reporting to ownership, the Controller will oversee day-to-day financial operations while providing accurate, timely reporting and financial insight. This role will manage accounting processes, ensure compliance, and support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
The successful candidate will work closely with an established bookkeeper, building on existing processes while enhancing financial visibility, controls, and operational efficiency across the organization.

Their integrated approach allows for greater control, efficiency, and accountability across every phase of construction.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
· Oversee full-cycle accounting across multiple entities and divisions
· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
· Manage divisional P&Ls and develop meaningful financial reporting
· Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
· Perform variance analysis and provide insights to leadership
· Coordinate year-end processes with external accountants
Construction & Project Accounting
· Maintain accurate job costing and project financial tracking
· Monitor WIP (Work in Progress) and project profitability
· Track construction draws, billing, holdbacks, and subcontractor payments
· Support costing and financial oversight across custom homes, renovations, and development projects
· Ensure proper allocation of overhead and intercompany transactions
Systems & Operational Oversight
· Oversee accounting systems, internal controls, and processes
· Manage and support the bookkeeping function
· Ensure compliance with payroll, remittances, and tax filings (GST/PST)
· Support integration between accounting and construction management systems
· Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting and efficiency
Leadership & Business Support
· Provide financial insight to support operational and strategic decisions
· Partner with ownership on business planning and growth initiatives
· Help establish scalable systems to support continued expansion
· Foster accountability and financial discipline across the organization
· Opportunity to build and develop your own accounting team, including clerical support.
Qualifications
· 8-10 years of accounting or finance experience, ideally within construction, homebuilding, development, or a related industry
· Strong understanding of project-based accounting and job costing
· Experience managing multiple entities and divisional reporting
· Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
· Excellent communication and ability to work cross-functionally
· High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
· Experience with a construction CRM platform, (buildertrend, procore, etc) is an asset
