Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Concrete Finisher – Hardscape Lead Job Description The Concrete Finisher – Hardscape Lead oversees a small crew of concrete finishers and labourers on new construction sites, working closely with the carpentry team to deliver high-quality hardscape projects. This role combines hands-on concrete finishing with leadership responsibilities, including running pours, directing team members, and ensuring work meets safety and quality standards. The position focuses on building planter walls, slabs, flat work, stairs, and driveways using a variety of finishing techniques. Responsibilities Oversee and lead a small team of concrete finishers and labourers on new construction sites. Plan, run, and manage concrete pours, including directing crew members and coordinating tasks. Build and install forms for planter walls, slabs, stairs, and other hardscape elements. Perform all aspects of concrete work, including pouring, vibrating, finishing, patching, and saw cutting. Complete a range of finishes such as wet finishing, dry finishing, broom finishing, smooth finishing, and exposed aggregate. Work alongside the carpentry team to coordinate formwork and other structural requirements. Travel to various project sites as required and perform labour duties when needed. Use and maintain personal hand tools, including tool belt, tape measure, square, chalk line, and hammer. Apply and follow safety procedures on site, including completing and adhering to Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs). Lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs as part of daily duties. Support general hardscape and construction tasks in parks, new construction projects, and commercial building maintenance. Collaborate effectively with crew members and other trades to ensure projects are completed on time and to specification. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience performing wet concrete finishing. Proven experience building forms for planter walls, slabs, and stairs. Hands-on experience with a range of concrete finishing techniques, including wet, dry, broom, smooth, and exposed aggregate finishes. Experience overseeing and directing a crew of 4 or more people on site. Strong understanding of construction site safety practices and experience working with FLHAs. Ability and willingness to perform labour-intensive tasks as needed. Capability to lift up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly. Ability to travel to multiple job sites as required. Proficiency in hardscaping, concrete finishing, and basic construction and carpentry tasks. Ownership and competent use of personal hand tools, including tool belt, tape measure, square, chalk line, and hammer. Access to a car for travel to and from job sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in general hardscaping and formwork on new construction and commercial maintenance projects. Familiarity with working alongside carpentry teams on structural and architectural concrete elements. Fall protection training or certification (Fall Pro) is an asset. Ability to communicate in Spanish is an asset. Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination skills. Work Environment Work takes place on various sites in New Westminster, Surrey, Vancouver, and Maple Ridge, primarily in parks, new construction projects, and commercial building maintenance settings. You will work closely with other concrete finishers, labourers, and carpentry teams in a collaborative, site-based environment. Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime depending on project needs. The role is physically demanding and outdoors, requiring regular lifting, use of hand tools, and exposure to typical construction site conditions and equipment.
