Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The Community Ministry Worker coordinates the food services operations for The Salvation Army to ensure compliance with the Canada Food Guide, and to ensure compliance with applicable health regulations.
POSITION
The Community Ministry Worker assists with the food services operations for The Salvation Army East Kootenay Circuit – Fernie.
Normal hours of work
– Monday to Friday 8:30 – 5:00 (Wednesday may differ)
Accountabilities:
Program
You will be assisting in the following areas:
Assisting in food recovery by helping sort and distribute food donations
Assisting with janitorial duties such as dusting, sweeping and washing of floors and bathroom or other duties as required
Driving to pick up food, dropping of recycling, electronics or other items when volunteers are not available
Take in and help sort donations for CFS or Thrift Store
Greeting and aiding donors and guests, offering information about our services and/or directing them to those who can assist.
Monitor equipment for repairs (logging fridge temperatures)
Make connections with and monitor the well-being of those in our building in order to build transforming relationships with guests and donors
Offer program support to the CFS Supervisor, Thrift Store Manager, volunteers or other staff
Aid in inventory tracking
Clean up after food share, sanitizing dishes, produce bins and pickup bins
Preparing and maintaining the coffee station, including cleanliness
Communicating with and directing guests to services offer in the TSA I or within the community
Health and Safety
Assist in ensuring client and volunteer safety by maintaining cleanliness and adherence to all health and safety standards.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Perform other position related duties.
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY
:
This position reports directly to CFS Supervisor
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
Assist with food bank materials management such as donations/product flow and distribution of same.
Responsible for the handling of gift cards up to $100 in value.
Working Conditions:
This is a permanent full -time Position.
Ability to lift/move on a regular basis up to 80 pounds.
This job requires reaching, bending and stooping frequently; working in a standing position for long periods of time.
This position works in generally agreeable condition at a local elementary school.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
Requires completion of Secondary School Diploma; alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Safe Food Handling Certification.
Must have valid drivers license and clean drivers abstract
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience.

Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check.
Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Ability and willingness to provide a valid Safe Food Handlers Certification.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $21.84 with a maximum of $26.20.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
