Overview
The Internal Audit department is looking for
2 (two) co-op students
who have a strong interest in internal audit and are ready to gain hands-on experience in assessing governance, risk management and internal control in a rapidly changing business landscape. The students will work on operational or IT audits. Operational audits focus on reviewing processes and practices in our core business areas (Assessments, Prevention Services and Claims and Rehabilitation Services). IT audits focus on technology processes and cybersecurity practices.
This opportunity offers exposure to a broad range of audit activities and helps students build professional skills in communication, analysis, and problem solving. The students will work closely with experienced audit professionals and gain insight into how internal audit supports the achievement of WorkSafeBC's strategic objectives while enhancing decision-making and oversight in the organization.
This role is for a 4-month long work term beginning on August 31, 2026.
How you'll make a difference:
You'll help ensure WorkSafeBC is accomplishing its objectives by evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.
Where you'll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.
In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond Office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.
What you'll do
On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.
During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success, including becoming more familiar with internal audit. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them with the team's vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your manager for added guidance and support.
This role is ideal for an individual who is eager to step beyond their comfort zone. We are looking for someone with strong motivation and willingness to learn. The right candidate will possess analytical and critical thinking skills, enabling them to help execute audit engagements efficiently and effectively.
Your daily responsibilities may include the following:
Gather and research information relevant to audits during planning, including research on policies, procedures, standards, and leading practices
Conduct testing, analyze audit evidence, and prepare working papers to support audit conclusions
Assist with data analytics to identify trends, anomalies and insights that support audit planning and testing
Participate in meetings with audit team members and business partners
Summarize audit results and assist in the preparation of the audit report
Perform other related duties as required

Your background and experience
Currently enrolled in an undergrad or master's degree in business analytics, data science, or related discipline
Working knowledge of data analytics and visualization tools, such as SQL, Python, Power BI, and Tableau.
Exposure to artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., large language models, machine learning, automation, or prompt-based tools) through coursework, projects, or co-op/internship experience
Exposure to internal audit, risk management and internal control
We'll consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.
