What qualifications are we looking for? At the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta, we strive to ensure our employees are a good fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration Standard First Aid, CPR-Level C Evidence of a clear Police Information Check (with Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable), within the last six months Current Food Handling Certification Must have a valid driver’s license with a class 07 or a reliable method of transportation Must have $2,000,000.00 insurance liability coverage YMCA of Southeastern Alberta Knowledge & Skills Knowledge and experience with Alberta Health Services Food Safety Standards Understanding of Canadian Nutritional Guidelines (Canada Food Guide) Familiarity with food allergies and handling of cross contamination issues Organizational skills and knowledge of food storage, preparation and safe food handling Operational knowledge of kitchen equipment, appliances and cleaning supplies Experience in ordering, budgeting and inventorying What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta? Reporting to the GM of Childcare, this position is responsible for the operation of the food program, including meal planning, preparation, budgeting and all other kitchen operations. This position will also be responsible for parent education sessions such as budgeting, meal prep and nutrition classes in addition to monthly community kitchen activities. Teamwork Work effectively within the Child Care team, contributing to its overall success by: Promoting the YMCA’s annual Y Connect Campaign Promoting and/or attending YMCA events Contributing to a positive and healthy workplace culture Other duties to assist the team, as assigned Standards that Shine Achieve all quality standards and targets established under YMCA best practices and the YMCA’s Standards that Shine General cleaning as required around the facility Ensuring all staff are aware of Standards that Shine, and work with them to create a culture of excellence in adherence to guidelines and expectations outlined by the Standards that Shine Interpersonal/Communication Skills Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, managers, and the senior leadership team Ensure workplace conflicts are resolved quickly, following YMCA policies and procedures Effectively communicate with parents and community members Quality of Work Works well in a team environment, but can also be self directed Consistent and reliable Four-week menu creation, including meals and snacks for a variety of ages, following the Canada Food Guide and accounting for student allergies and dietary restrictions Staying within a provided budget Daily meal preparation for an average of 80 students Transportation of groceries to secondary location Creation of supply lists, receiving food order and creation of inventory checklists Ensuring safety and sanitization of the kitchen area, including stock rotation and staying current on food recall alerts Nutritional education Washing dishes after meals/snacks Other duties as assigned Compliance with Legislation and YMCA Policies and Procedure YMCA Child Safeguarding and Operational Policies and Procedures Public health and safety regulations Occupational Health and Safety FOIP guidelines and Confidentiality requirements Work Environment and Physical Demands Work will occur at the John Millar and YMCA Crescent Heights Child Development Centres Parking will be provided at no cost Kitchen is located on the main floor and is in an accessible location Applicant will be standing for most of the day Some lifting will be required (I.e. soup pots, casseroles in and out of oven) Applicant will not be required to complete any work outside.
