Mississauga Convention Centre is seeking an experienced and talented Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience preparing a wide variety of international cuisines and managing high-volume banquet and catering operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for menu planning, food preparation, kitchen supervision, and maintaining the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and food safety.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook high-quality food for weddings, corporate events, banquets, and special functions.
Create and execute menus featuring a variety of cuisines including Indian, Hakka Chinese, Continental, Italian, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and North American dishes.
Ensure food quality, consistency, presentation, and portion control standards are maintained.
Supervise, train, and support kitchen staff during daily operations.
Assist with menu planning, recipe development, and food costing.
Ensure all food preparation and handling procedures comply with health and safety regulations.
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment.
Monitor inventory levels and assist with purchasing and receiving supplies.
Minimize food waste through proper storage, labeling, and stock rotation.
Coordinate with management and event teams to ensure successful event execution.
Operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Chef in a banquet hall, catering company, hotel, convention centre, or restaurant.
Strong knowledge of international cuisines and cooking techniques.
Experience preparing food for large-scale events and high-volume operations.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Food Handler Certification required.
WHMIS Certification is an asset.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in banquet and catering operations.
Menu planning and food costing experience.
Experience leading and mentoring kitchen teams.
Knowledge of dietary restrictions and customized menu preparation.
