Position: Casual Nursing Assistant Department: 5 Pavilion Orthopedic Unit Location: UPMC Passavant Shifts: Daylight, evening/overnight, weekend, and holiday shift requirements (rotating). Hours vary by unit; minimum of 36 hours in a 6-week scheduling period. **Title and salary are based on education and experience. Responsibilities: * Perform duties in line with system-wide competencies/behaviors. * Report equipment malfunctions. * Establish effective communication and professional relationships. * Assist with unit activities (e.g., responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients). * Receive and act on feedback; identify and communicate learning needs. * Participate in self-review and improve knowledge, skills, and performance. * Communicate clearly with the healthcare team and understand cultural diversity. * Support workplace safety and maintain productive relationships. * Perform nursing assistant core responsibilities (e.g., ADLs, point of care testing, vital signs, telemetry monitor application, HAC & PSI prevention, urine specimen collection). * Provide direct patient care as directed by the RN. * Maintain a safe and organized environment. * Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment. * Deliver patient nourishments and mail; provide diversional activities. * Document in medical records and complete clerical functions. * Comply with safety policies and procedures. * Adhere to patient care and hospital information policies. * Respond to emergent situations and provide companionship/supervision as required. * Suggest and support departmental changes; assume responsibility for assignments. They are not exhaustive lists of all duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skills, abilities and working conditions associated with the job. + High school diploma or equivalent. + Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program + Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques. + Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. + Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
