Job DescriptionJob Description Job Posting Position: Casual Janitor Department: Maintenance/Janitorial Reports to: Maintenance Manager Position Status: Casual (as needed and required) Casual Janitor About the Opportunity Eskasoni Community Health Centre is seeking a Casual Janitor to support the daily operation and cleanliness of our facility. This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for clients, visitors, and staff. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Casual Janitor is responsible for performing routine cleaning, sanitation, and light maintenance duties throughout the Health Centre. The successful candidate will ensure all areas are maintained in accordance with organizational standards and infection prevention and control protocols while supporting a healthy and respectful workplace. Key Responsibilities Perform routine cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing of all designated areas within the Health Centre. Clean and polish floors using commercial floor scrubbers, burnishers, vacuum cleaners, and other cleaning equipment. Clean walls, vents, ceiling fixtures, glass, desktops, ledges, washrooms, waste receptacles, and other high-touch surfaces. Refill paper towel, tissue, soap, chemical dispensers, and garbage bags as required. Collect and dispose of garbage and recycling in accordance with established procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked janitorial room and storage areas. Clean and maintain janitorial equipment, including mops, buckets, carts, and cleaning tools. Follow all infection prevention and control practices, including current public health cleaning and disinfection protocols. Assist with light maintenance duties and perform other related responsibilities as assigned. Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or supply shortages to the Janitor Supervisor. Contribute to a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for staff, clients, and visitors. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Janitorial or custodial cleaning certification is considered an asset. Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, equipment, and cleaning products. Ability to safely operate commercial cleaning equipment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to follow workplace health and safety procedures. Reliable, dependable, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Experience Previous janitorial or custodial experience is required. Experience working in a healthcare or community-based environment is considered an asset. Experience operating commercial floor cleaning equipment is preferred. Additional Requirements Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and casual shifts as required. Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including lifting, bending, standing, and repetitive cleaning tasks. Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
