Job DescriptionJob Description Carpenter / Technician Job Description This role combines hands-on carpentry and technical work on heavy construction and industrial projects across Ontario, including pipelines, chemical plants, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and manufacturing environments such as food and automotive plants. You will support the full project lifecycle, from site setup and start-up through to shutdown and demobilization, while performing a mix of carpentry, concrete work, equipment-related tasks, and general labour as needed. Responsibilities Perform basic carpentry tasks, including constructing, installing, and repairing structures and components on heavy construction and industrial sites. Build and assemble basic concrete forms for pouring and finishing concrete on various projects. Assist in setting up job sites, including organizing tools, materials, and equipment to support safe and efficient project start-up. Participate in site shutdown and close-out activities, including dismantling temporary structures, organizing tools, and preparing equipment for transport. Carry out general labour duties as required, such as site cleanup, debris removal, and tasks like laying sod to restore work areas. Support start-up and testing activities for systems and equipment on construction and industrial projects. Assist with shutdown operations, ensuring equipment and systems are safely and properly taken out of service. Participate in renovation and restoration work, including modifying or upgrading existing structures and installations. Support rigging and material handling activities, helping to move, position, and secure heavy tools, components, and equipment safely. Assist in troubleshooting machinery and equipment, helping to identify issues and support maintenance or repair work. Work with equipment such as tool grinders, press brakes and other metalworking equipment, pumps and compressors, welding equipment, heat exchangers, and machining tools, as required by the project. Read and interpret plans and blueprints accurately to ensure work is completed to specification. Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for carpentry, concrete, and general construction tasks. Work in outdoor and industrial environments, including construction, wastewater, and masonry settings, while following safety protocols. Travel regularly to various project sites across Ontario and adapt to changing tasks, locations, and project needs. Essential Skills Minimum 2+ years of experience in carpentry or concrete work. Proven experience working with construction plans and blueprints, including the ability to read and interpret them accurately. Working at Heights certificate. Hands-on experience in construction or maintenance environments involving carpentry and concrete. Ability to read and understand blueprints and project drawings to complete tasks to specification. Proficiency using hand and power tools safely and effectively in construction and industrial settings. Comfort working in outdoor environments and on construction and wastewater-related sites. Willingness and ability to perform both skilled carpentry/concrete tasks and general labour duties. Openness to working on both industrial and construction projects, including heavy construction and plant environments. Ability to work safely at heights in noisy, dusty, cold, and otherwise uncomfortable conditions. Willingness to travel frequently and stay away from home for periods of time to support projects at multiple locations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in water or wastewater treatment plants. Familiarity with alignment tools used in construction or industrial maintenance. Experience operating or working with scissor lifts. Confined space training or experience working in confined spaces. Background as both a Construction Millwright and an Industrial Millwright. Experience working with equipment such as tool grinders, press brakes, metalworking equipment, pumps, compressors, welding equipment, heat exchangers, and machining tools. Work Environment This is a travel-intensive role with frequent assignments at project sites across Ontario, including regions such as Kitchener–Waterloo, the west Greater Toronto Area, Burlington, Collingwood, and Sarnia. You will work primarily on heavy construction and industrial sites such as pipelines, chemical plants, water and wastewater treatment plants, and manufacturing facilities. The work environment is often noisy, dusty, and cold, and may involve exposure to wastewater and other challenging site conditions. You must be comfortable working at heights and in physically demanding conditions, including outdoor work and industrial plant environments. The role involves regular use of hand and power tools, as well as exposure to equipment such as tool grinders, press brakes, pumps, compressors, welding equipment, heat exchangers, and machining tools. Dress will typically follow construction and industrial site standards, including appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing suitable for outdoor and heavy industrial work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waterloo, ON. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
