Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning, the Associate Director of Jewish Studies provides instructional leadership and administrative support, focusing on student success and teacher development. The successful candidate will ensure high-quality Jewish Studies (JS) education through curriculum oversight, staff supervision and evaluation, professional development, and effective communication with all stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge and background in curriculum development and school leadership.
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada and authorized to work in childcare and primary/secondary school teaching occupations.
This is a LTO position to cover a parental leave starting August 10, 2026. The role is split between our Viewmount Branch, located at 2760 Bathurst Street in Toronto and our Himel Branch, located 180 Ilan Ramon Boulevard, Vaughan.
The annual salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000, which will be prorated based on the length of this LTO.
Key Responsibilities
Student Advocacy
Facilitate the provision of resource intervention when needed
Help teachers pursue alternative instructional strategies
Supervision and Evaluation of Staff and Instruction
Work collaboratively with the Director of Teaching and Learning on staffing and recruitment
Guide and supervise new Jewish Studies teachers in lesson planning and delivery, subject matter, and classroom management
Supervise and evaluate teaching and learning through observing lessons and providing formal evaluations of non-tenured and tenured teachers
Partner in the facilitation of instructional and institutional enhancements
Define quantifiable educational objectives across various subjects and grade levels
Collect and interpret data to monitor progress toward established goals
Assess academic performance and learning results within the Jewish Studies department
With the Director of Teaching and Learning, supervise specific grades and the development of the Jewish Studies curriculum
Coordinate the planning of professional development and staff meetings – in consultation with the rest of the Admin Team
School Culture
Foster a connection to, and pride in, membership in the Bialik community
Promote the development of Jewish values, Menschlichkeit and Ahavat Yisrael
Promote the school’s Yiddish program, including language instruction and an understanding of the role that Yiddish has played, and continues to play, in our people’s history
Decision-Making and Leadership
Work with Admin Team to establish strategic priorities and develop plans for upholding Bialik’s pillars
Participate in the educational budgeting process
Facilitate the integration of technology with Jewish Studies programs
Keep abreast of developments and trends in curriculum development and education
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Education is required; Master’s preferred
Experience in special education, student support services or academic intervention
Knowledge of assistive technology tools and UDL principles
Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills
Well-organized and detail-oriented
Experience in social-emotional learning (SEL) and behavioural intervention.
Understanding of Responsive Classroom principles and their application in a dual-curriculum setting
Understanding of second-language acquisition
Experience offering learning extensions for students needing additional challenges
Leadership and team management experience
