We offer structured Therapeutic Living Units (TLUs) across Alberta, providing comprehensive support that includes vocational training, family reintegration assistance, and relapse prevention planning. By building recovery capital, we empower individuals to achieve lasting recovery and lead fulfilling lives.
We are currently seeking a Therapeutic Living Unit (TLU) Lead to join our team in the TLU in Lethbridge. TLUs are unique Therapeutic Communities within correctional settings, providing inmates (members) an opportunity for evidence-based care for substance use disorders. As a TLU Lead, you play a crucial role in supporting the "community as method" process. Working alongside TLU members & Behavioural Health Navigators (BHNs).
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the TLU Leads primary role is to provide supervision and oversight to ensure the TLU day-to-day operations reflect all elements of the therapeutic community model.
Role-specific Accountabilities:
General
Support staff and members through streamlined communication, thoughtful program management, conflict resolution, and ensuring all concerns are mediated in a respectful and timely manner.
Monitor and actively address the culture of the TLU to prevent escalating crises and cumulative stress.
Oversee daily operations including staff scheduling to ensure appropriate staff compliment supporting safe and effective therapeutic program delivery.
Attend to individual members specific needs, performing and supervising initial member assessment to determine members strengths, severity of dependence and readiness to change.
Maintain a therapeutic milieu, ensuring every activity is designed to support personal growth, and the collective health of the environment.
Role model behavioral expectations of conduct, dress, daily work habits, interpersonal communication, positive attitudes, temperament, emotional self-management and adherence to facility rules.
Act as the key liaison between the TLU team and Correctional Services Division (CSD) maintaining effective communication.
Regularly engage in activities to maintain clinical knowledge and personal mental and psychological health.
Ensure KPIs are tracked and reported monthly.
Financial
Review the operational budgets, recommend changes and submit proposals to improve efficiency and meet the identified Key Performance Indicators and other metrics.
Assist in the management of operational expenditures within budget.
Maintain an inventory of supplies and order new items as needed.
Training
Assist in development, implementation, and review of the TLU program materials and operations by promoting awareness of current best practice and evidenced based interventions.
Evaluate staff performance and identify areas of improvement or concern.
Quality Assurance and Risk Management
In collaboration with BCC leadership team monitor, promote and lead continuous quality improvement work and monitor compliance with legislative, regulatory, privacy and CSD regulatory requirements.
Actively report and manage issues of non-compliance.
Ensure risk management strategies and chain of command reporting are implemented and maintained.
Qualifications:
A Bachelors degree in a related field is preferred.
Minimum 2-years of experience in management or leadership roles within a Therapeutic Community or other substance misuse/mental health treatment facility, including demonstrated knowledge working with individuals who have problematic substance use and mental health challenges.
Experience working in Provincial or Federal correctional facilities or individuals in the criminal justice field is regarded as a clear asset.
Completion of a formal certification program (CCAD, CIAC, RSG Recognized Recovery Coaching program) is preferred.
Identified experience working with corrections populations.
Excellent organizational and coordination skills, including communication and interpersonal skills to work with members from diverse backgrounds and different cultural groups.
Demonstrated conflict resolution, problem solving, and strengths-focused mediation skills.
Good presentation and group facilitation skills.
Demonstrated experience successfully creating partnerships and working with a range of community services.
Working knowledge and ability to learn electronic medical records (EMR) software, Microsoft applications (Work and Excel) and other computer-based business applications.
Flexible and able to attend to matters beyond normal office hours.
Lived experience related to addictions and/or mental health is an asset.
Conditions of Employment
Successfully complete and pass a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check prior to starting employment and annually after.
Clearance to be on premises by the Director of the Correctional Facility.
Valid Driver's License.
