Role Description
The Associate Lawyer, Family Law, will manage a caseload involving matters such as separation, divorce, parenting, child support, spousal support, and property division. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, providing legal advice, drafting pleadings and agreements, preparing correspondence, and conducting negotiations with opposing counsel.
The role also involves attending court appearances, mediations, and settlement meetings, as well as conducting legal research and staying current with developments in Alberta family law. The Associate Lawyer will collaborate with colleagues and support staff to ensure files progress efficiently and that clients receive clear, timely updates.
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Calgary, AB, for a lawyer with
2 to 5 years of experience
and a background in family law.
Qualifications
Licensed to practice law in Alberta, with membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
Experience in family law, including negotiation, mediation, and litigation in Alberta courts
Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in drafting clear, accurate legal documents, agreements, and court materials
Excellent client communication, interviewing, and relationship-building abilities
Ability to manage multiple files, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines with attention to detail
Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a team-based environment
High level of professionalism, discretion, and commitment to ethical practice
Comfort with legal practice management software and standard office technology
Prior experience in a family law firm or related practice area is an asset
