About the Role
S&P Dow Jones Indices is seeking a highly experienced Lead Software Engineer to develop and maintain Fixed Income platforms. This role involves building scalable, reliable, auditable solutions for index offerings, evaluating new technologies, leading design efforts, and ensuring high quality financial applications. Responsibilities include hands‑on development, team mentorship, and cross‑functional collaboration to drive innovation and operational excellence.
The Team
Fixed Income value stream focuses on robust calculation engines for managing fixed income indices. The team operates with a product‑first mindset, Agile principles, and modernizes the technology stack.
Responsibilities
Design and develop high‑performance calculation engines and services for fixed income indices, processing large‑scale financial data efficiently.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to implement scalable, reliable solutions supporting critical business operations and client needs.
Drive technical excellence through code reviews, architecture discussions, and establishing best practices for system reliability and maintainability.
Work within Agile development cycles to deliver features that enhance our fixed income technology platform, aligning with industry standards.
Mentor junior developers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing within the team.
Lead initiatives to modernize existing systems and adopt new technologies to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Architect and oversee calculation engines and analytics services, balancing latency, throughput, cost, and accuracy.
Implement end‑to‑end data lineage, reconciliation, anomaly detection, reproducibility, auditability, and version control across analytics models and data inputs/outputs.
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers and quantitative developers, setting clear expectations for technical quality and rigor.
Design, develop, and deploy AI‑driven solutions and machine learning models to enhance financial data processing, anomaly detection, data reconciliation, and advanced analytics.
Operate with high autonomy, quickly ramping up on complex financial domains and new technologies to drive platform build‑out with minimal oversight.
Basic Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
10+ years of software development experience with Java, Python, or Scala.
Strong background in distributed systems and microservices architecture.
Proficiency with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Extensive experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra.
Proven expertise in fixed income system design and analytics.
Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and product development lifecycle.
Deep, hands‑on proficiency with AWS for building scalable, distributed systems and microservices architectures.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, learn complex new systems rapidly, and lead green‑field platform build‑outs.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Experience in financial services, especially fixed income securities, indices, or calculation engines.
Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker, orchestration platforms like Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
Experience with CI/CD platforms and DevOps practices using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
Familiarity with performance optimization and high‑frequency data processing systems.
Experience with AI‑augmented software engineering practices and AI coding assistants.
