Camp YMCA Kanawana’s Hike and Trip program has the goal of providing safe and fun wilderness camping experiences while teaching skills and confidence to children and youth from all over the world. Camp YMCA Kanawana is located on a gorgeous 550-acre site in the Laurentians that includes three lakes and a network of wooded trails. Our expedition program sends children and youth on multi-day canoe trips on beautiful lakes and rivers in Ontario and Quebec.
The Assistant Hike and Trip Coordinator mandate will be to manage and supervise the junior guides, coordinate all the food preparation for the canoe tripping programs, and oversee the logistics and execution of the overnight program.
WHAT CHALLENGES WILL YOU TACKLE?
Manage, supervise and support the junior guides
Ensure all food preparation and management follows MAPAQ regulations
Order food and receive deliveries
Respond to emergencies on trip and on camp when necessary
Manage all aspects of the supervision of participants in a safe context in terms of health and wellbeing on overnight trips
Support staff with trip departures and arrivals
Provide training, schedule and check-ins with junior guides
Create connections with and get to know campers in the section
Facilitate the execution of proposed programming and staff training
Ensure proper follow-up with team members, directors and coordinator
Provide support and assist with Hike and Trip Director tasks
Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures regarding the protection of children and vulnerable people.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Has at least two years of experience in a management position in outdoor education in a day camp or wilderness class facilitation, or in a similar field (an asset)
Has a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and White-water Rescue Technician (WRT) certifications (offered if needed)
Is fluent in French (spoken)
Intermediate proficiency in English.The employee will be required to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, with various individuals on a daily basis.
Is available to work a variable schedule, specifically in the evenings and weekends
Has a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
Has no criminal record in connection with employment
Is available from June to August 22st
