Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Apprentice Electrician – Day Shift Job Description This role supports the construction and commissioning of a large-scale data center, with a focus on building data halls from the ground up. You will start with foundational work such as laying and gluing pipe, bending and installing conduit, and pulling and managing cable, then progress to tasks like hooking up generators to the power grid and assisting with commissioning activities if you have the relevant experience. The position suits indentured apprentice electricians who want long-term, steady work on a high-profile commercial/industrial project and are comfortable working with higher voltages and tight timelines on a busy, live construction site. Responsibilities Perform ground work in the build-out stage of data halls, including laying and gluing pipe to project specifications. Bend and install EMT conduit ranging from 3/4 inch up to 4 inches, ensuring accurate measurements and secure fittings. Install and run conduit for various electrical systems, following blueprints and installation plans. Work with electrical systems operating from 480 volts up to 750 volts in a safe and compliant manner. Pull, route, and manage electrical cables, ensuring proper cable management practices throughout the facility. Install cable bussing and cable trays to support and organize cables within the data hall environment. Hook up generators to the power grid once groundwork and conduit runs are complete, under the direction of qualified personnel. Read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams to complete installations accurately. Assist with electrical wiring and low-voltage installations as required by the project. Support commissioning activities in the data hall once construction is complete, if you have relevant commissioning experience. Work effectively on a live job site where multiple trades operate, adapting to changes and coordinating with other teams. Manage periods of both high activity and slower times by staying productive, proactive, and self-directed. Meet tight timelines and production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards. Use elevated work platforms and aerial lifts safely when performing tasks at height. Follow all site safety procedures, including CSTS, fall protection, and elevated work platform requirements. Maintain reliable attendance and ensure you can travel to and from the Rocky View County site for day-shift work. Be available for overtime, including weekends, when requested, and support extended workweeks as project demands require. Essential Skills Indentured 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year apprentice electrician status. Experience in industrial or commercial construction environments. Proficiency in bending and installing EMT conduit from 3/4 inch up to 4 inches. Demonstrated experience running and installing conduit in new construction settings. Cable pulling and cable management experience on large projects. Experience with cable bussing or installing cable trays. Ability to work safely with electrical systems from 480 volts up to 750 volts. Competence in electrical wiring and installation, including low-voltage work. Ability to read and work from blueprints and installation drawings. Current CSTS certification (online course accepted). Current Fall Protection certification (online course accepted). Current Elevated Work Platform / Aerial Lift certification (online course accepted). Reliable transportation to the project site in Rocky View County. Ability and willingness to work day shifts and regular overtime, including weekends. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience on large commercial or industrial construction projects. Experience working on data centers or similar high-density electrical facilities. Familiarity with new construction environments where multiple trades are active on a live site. Comfort working in a fast-paced setting with changing priorities and tight deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay productive during both busy and slower periods. Willingness to work extended hours, including 6–7 days per week when required. Experience assisting with or performing commissioning work in electrical or data hall environments. Why Work Here? You join a long-term project expected to run for 18 months or more, offering stability and consistent opportunities for growth. You can take advantage of abundant overtime, with time-and-a-half after 8 hours each day, premium rates on Saturdays, and double time on Sundays, while still having the flexibility to decline weekend overtime when needed. You work on a high-profile, large commercial/industrial data center, gaining valuable experience with cutting-edge infrastructure in a Tier III-designed, high-density facility. Positions open regularly, providing ongoing opportunities to continue or expand your engagement on site. You receive weekly pay and can access optional benefits through Manulife, supporting your financial security and well-being. Work Environment This role is based on a large data center construction site in Rocky View County, working primarily on day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The environment is a live, active construction site where multiple trades operate simultaneously, and the client may adjust plans as the project progresses. You can expect a mix of indoor and partially enclosed work areas typical of a large data hall build-out, with periods of intense activity and quieter intervals. Standard shifts are 10 hours on weekdays, with overtime after 8 hours in a day. Overtime work on Saturdays is paid at time and a half, and Sundays at double time, with overtime frequently requested but not mandatory every weekend. The project involves extensive use of EMT conduit, cable trays, elevated work platforms, and aerial lifts, and requires consistent adherence to site safety protocols such as CSTS, fall protection, and elevated work platform procedures. The site is a high-capacity, 90MW, Tier III-designed data center, providing exposure to modern electrical and data infrastructure in a large commercial/industrial setting.
