Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Apprentice Electrician – Afternoon Shift Job Description This project-based role focuses on commercial and light industrial electrical work for a large data center in the Rocky View County / Calgary NE area. The position is suited to higher-level electrical apprentices or journeypersons with strong commercial or industrial experience who are comfortable working in active construction environments. You will work afternoon shifts with overtime and premium pay opportunities, contributing to installations, troubleshooting, and general electrical construction tasks on a high-profile project. Responsibilities Perform commercial and light industrial electrical installations, including wiring, equipment connections, cable pulling, distribution, lighting, and general construction tasks. Read and interpret electrical blueprints and drawings to plan and execute work accurately. Install, run, and bend conduit and pipe, including working with cable trays and cable management systems in new construction environments. Troubleshoot electrical systems and equipment to identify issues and implement effective solutions. Support and, where appropriate, help direct and coordinate crew activities to ensure efficient workflow and task completion. Follow safe work practices, site procedures, and safety instructions at all times to maintain a safe work environment. Communicate clearly in English with site supervisors, coworkers, and other trades for safety, coordination, and adherence to site instructions. Work efficiently with minimal supervision, taking ownership of assigned tasks and meeting project timelines. Use elevated work platforms or aerial lifts as required, in accordance with applicable certifications and safety standards. Travel reliably to and from the job site in Calgary’s NE / Rocky View County area for scheduled afternoon shifts and required overtime. Essential Skills Strong commercial or industrial electrical experience in active construction or industrial-style environments. Experience with electrical installations, troubleshooting, equipment connections, cable pulling, distribution, lighting, and general electrical construction tasks. Ability to run and bend conduit and pipe, including working with cable trays and cable management systems in new construction settings. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints and construction drawings. Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision while maintaining high-quality workmanship. Leadership capability or experience supporting and directing a crew on site. Strong English communication skills for safety, coordination, and following site instructions. Solid understanding of safe work practices, site procedures, and construction safety standards. Reliable transportation to the job site. Valid electrical apprenticeship registration (Apprentice 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year) or Journeyperson Electrician certification preferred. CSTS certification. WHMIS certification. Fall Protection certification. Additional Skills & Qualifications Journeyperson Electrician status is preferred, with higher-level apprentices (2nd, 3rd, 4th year) strongly considered. Experience in commercial construction and new construction environments. Experience working on large commercial or industrial projects, including data centers, is an asset. Elevated Work Platform / Aerial Lift certification is considered an asset. Experience with low-voltage electrical work and running conduit in complex layouts. Demonstrated ability to manage cable routing, cable trays, and organized cable management systems. Comfort working afternoon shifts with overtime as required. Work takes place on a large data center construction site in Rocky View County / Calgary’s NE, within an active commercial and light industrial environment. You will work with standard electrical construction tools and equipment, including conduit bending tools, cable trays, elevated work platforms, and aerial lifts, while following established site safety procedures. The environment is fast-paced and project-focused, requiring adherence to safety standards, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and readiness to work both indoors and outdoors on a commercial/industrial construction site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Balzac, AB. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $50.40/hr.
