Job Overview The Cardiac Anesthesia Division at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is actively recruiting new members to support a growing program. The division consists of 8 members and provides seamless coverage for pre‑operative consultation, cardiac surgery anesthesia and post‑operative care in the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The ICU is a 6‑bed unit with capacity to expand to 8 beds. The division supports a cardiac surgery volume of ~600 cases per year, a TAVI program of ~150 cases per year, short‑term mechanical support (V‑A ECMO, V‑V ECMO, VAD), and consultation/TEE support for complex non‑cardiac surgery. When fully staffed, the division aims for a 50/50 split between cardiac anesthesia and general anesthesia. All members receive an adjunct appointment to the Department of Cardiac Sciences. Responsibilities Pre‑operative assessment and consultation for cardiac surgery patients. Anesthesia induction, maintenance and monitoring for cardiac and TAVI procedures. Post‑operative care in the Cardiac Surgery ICU, including advanced hemodynamic support. Short‑term mechanical support for patients requiring V‑A ECMO, V‑V ECMO or VAD. TEE support and consultation for complex non‑cardiac procedures. Participation in acute pain services, sedation, obstetrics/gynecology, paediatrics, trauma, urology, orthopaedics, thoracic, vascular, plastic, ENT and general surgery on call. Teaching medical students and residents as part of the University of British Columbia Southern Medical Program affiliation. Qualifications Board‑certified in Anesthesiology by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. Completion of a formal 12‑month cardiac anesthesia fellowship. TEE certification from the National Board of Echocardiography. Ability to fulfill call requirements across a broad range of surgical services. Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada in Anesthesiology.
