What you will be doing:
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accounting Specialist supports the day-to-day financial operations of The Family Centre with a focus on accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, in addition to performing reconciliations, variance analysis, and assisting with special projects within the finance department. The Accounting Specialist plays a vital role in the financial administration of our ohpikîhakan Foster Care program, which includes supporting and educating caregivers on expense requirements as well as liaising with program leadership.

This is a full-time, permanent position of 36.5 hours per week and is based in office.
Performing day-to-day financial transactions, including verifying, computing, classifying, coding, and posting invoices and payments
Preparing monthly invoices and backup for multiple service contracts based on purchase order, customer requirements, and contract terms
Processing and recording vendor invoices, employee expenses, and payment requests, ensuring proper coding and authorization
Developing a working understanding of various funding contract requirements, including funding structures, program budgets, provincial caregiver reimbursement guidelines, foster caregiver per diem rates, and applicable reporting requirements related to invoicing
Researching and responding to inquiries from customers, vendors, caregivers, or internal stakeholders in a timely manner
Maintaining vendor, customer, and service contract billing information
Following up on A/R and A/P Aging balances on a monthly basis
Preparing and processing journal entries to ensure proper recording of all transactions
Assisting in month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals and reconciliations
Updating accounting procedure manuals; maintaining organized and accurate documentation and files
Supporting with other administrative needs as they arise to ensure we are successful in achieving department and organization goals
What you will bring to the role:
Degree in Accounting, Business or related field
Minimum of 3 years of full-cycle accounting experience working in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and performing detailed reconciliations
Experience running a full-cycle payroll is considered an asset
Solid understanding of financial and management accounting principles in accordance with Canadian GAAP and ASNPO
Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel and Google applications (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Sheets) with adaptability to learn new software and applications as required
High aptitude for navigating multiple segregated systems with proficiency in using accounting systems
Experience using Sage Intacct or SAP Ariba systems are considered assets
High EQ and a fearlessly empathetic approach to collaboration
Experience working in a not-for-profit, charitable, or human services organization is considered an asset

Starting salary range of $60,624 to $66,421 per annum, commensurate with level of education and experience
