Your Recipe for Impact — What You’ll Do
As an Accounting Data Analyst, you'll transform financial and operational data into insights that help leaders make better business decisions. Supporting Whataburger's growing third-party delivery and franchise businesses, you'll use SQL, analytics, and reporting tools to identify trends, investigate issues, improve processes, and drive financial performance. Your understanding of accounting principles and financial processes will help ensure data accuracy, support period-end close activities, and translate complex business activity into meaningful financial insights that leaders can trust.
Day-to-Day Ingredients — Responsibilities
As an Accounting Data Analyst, you will:
Develop SQL queries to analyze financial and operational data
Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through data analysis
Conduct ad hoc analysis to diagnose issues and support resolution
Prepare financial analysis and materials for leadership review
Support accounting processes, including reconciliations and journal entries
Partner with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives
Support timely and accurate period- and year-end close processes
Maintain accurate, consistent financial data and reporting
Improve reporting efficiency and data quality

What You Bring to the Table — Required Experience
As an Accounting Data Analyst, you must have:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Accounting, Finance, or a related field
2+ years of financial analysis, accounting or related experience
Advanced Excel skills, including XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, Pivot tables, and data validation
Intermediate experience developing SQL queries to extract, join, and analyze data, including aggregate functions and subqueries
Ability to research and analyze discrepancies by querying underlying transactional data
Experience with variance, trend, and performance analysis
Proficiency in financial reporting and data tools
Understanding of journal entries and account reconciliations
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Clear written and verbal communication abilities
Extra Toppings — Desired Experience
As an Accounting Data Analyst, we prefer you to have:
Experience supporting third-party delivery or multi-unit operations
Experience using analytics and reporting tools such as Snowflake, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms
Exposure to reporting or process automation
Experience partnering cross‑functionally outside of Finance
Familiarity with continuous process improvement initiatives
Where & How You’ll Work
This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on‑site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. In this role, you’ll have strong collaboration with leadership, across cross-functional teams, and with external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast‑paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full‑time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
