Job DescriptionJob Description Job Title: Machine Operator – Wood Manufacturing (Morning Shift) Job Description This role focuses on operating woodworking machinery in a fast-growing custom manufacturing facility. You will support increased production demand by safely operating machines, handling materials, and preparing finished products for shipment. The position involves a mix of machine operation, material handling, and general warehouse duties to ensure projects are completed accurately and on time. Responsibilities Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently. Use a sit-down counterbalance forklift (SDCB) to move materials around the warehouse for a portion of the day. Operate pallet jacks to move pallets and materials throughout the facility. Prepare, wrap, and pack items for shipment, ensuring products are secure and protected. Organize and maintain a neat, orderly warehouse and work area. Lift, carry, and move products up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the day, including items of various sizes and shapes. Set up, operate, and monitor woodworking machines such as CNC machines, routers, and other production equipment as required. Perform basic machine setup, tool changes, and adjustments to maintain proper operation. Use measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, and squares to verify dimensions and ensure products meet specifications. Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and shop drawings to produce accurate components. Identify and correct production defects, ensuring products meet quality standards. Perform basic troubleshooting on machines to resolve minor issues and maintain productivity. Follow workplace health and safety practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe machine operation. Work both independently and as part of a team to meet production schedules and project deadlines. Maintain good organization and time management to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Essential Skills At least 1 year of machine operating experience in a production facility. Previous experience operating machines in a manufacturing or production environment. CNC operating experience. Basic troubleshooting experience on production machinery. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and shop drawings. Basic understanding of woodworking materials, tools, and manufacturing processes. Ability to use measuring instruments accurately, including tape measure, calipers, and squares. Strong math skills, including working with fractions, decimals, and measurements. Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform machine setup, tool changes, and adjustments. Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to identify and correct production defects. Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Good organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Router operating experience is an asset. Edge bander experience is a strong asset, especially for candidates with other wood manufacturing machine operation experience (routers, cutters, drill presses, etc.). Experience working with woodworking machinery and custom-built parts. Comfort working with a variety of product sizes and shapes. Experience in a larger wood manufacturing or custom shop environment. Work Environment This role is based in a large, fast-growing wood manufacturing facility that focuses on custom-built parts. The shop environment can be loud and dusty at times, and you will work around woodworking machinery such as CNC equipment, routers, edge banders, and other production machines. You will work a Monday to Friday morning shift from 6:00am to 2:30pm. The dress code requires long pants and does not allow shorts. Safety footwear (STWB) is required, and ear plugs, safety glasses, and safety vests are provided. The environment is team-oriented, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and collaboration, while also allowing you to work independently and take ownership of your tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Surrey, BC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
