Job Title: Commercial Carpenter (3rd Year Apprentice or Above)
Job Description
This role is ideal for an experienced commercial carpenter who works independently, demonstrates strong trade knowledge, and requires minimal supervision on standard carpentry tasks. You will contribute to new-build commercial retail projects, applying your skills in rough carpentry, framing, and blueprint reading while ensuring high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.
Responsibilities
Perform a wide range of general commercial carpentry duties on new-build retail and other commercial projects.
Build parapets and other structural elements in accordance with project specifications and safety requirements.
Execute rough carpentry and framing tasks, ensuring accuracy, structural integrity, and alignment with design plans.
Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to plan and complete work effectively.
Construct guardrails, backing, and other safety or support structures as required on site.
Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools such as tape measures and laser levels with precision and care.
Follow all site safety protocols, including fall protection and CSTS guidelines, and maintain required certifications.
Communicate clearly with site supervisors, trades, and team members to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring tools and equipment are used and stored properly.
Arrive on site reliably and on time, prepared to work the full scheduled shift and occasional extended hours if project timelines require.
Essential Skills
Proven commercial construction experience, including the ability to build parapets and complete standard commercial carpentry tasks independently.
Strong rough carpentry and framing skills with the ability to work from blueprints and construction drawings.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately to guide construction activities.
CSTS (Construction Safety Training System) certification.
Solid communication and soft skills, with the ability to clearly convey information on site.
Experience with finish carpentry tasks.

Work Environment
Work takes place on various commercial construction sites in Edmonton.
Typical hours are Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an 8-hour workday and occasional need to stay 1–2 hours later to meet project timelines.
Overtime is paid after 44 hours per week, though the goal is to minimize overtime on these projects.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $40.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
