Join the City of Medicine Hat as a Municipal Works Labourer
Seasonal | Full-Time | On-Site
Starting at $26.55/hour
Join our team as a Labourer with our Municipal Works department. This seasonal opportunity is anticipated to run through August 2026, providing hands-on experience supporting the infrastructure and services that keep our community moving. In this role, you'll perform a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair tasks, including pavement repairs, concrete work, snow and ice control, and stormwater infrastructure maintenance. With a focus on safety, teamwork, and service excellence, you'll contribute to projects that keep our city running smoothly while representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.
How you'll own it
Perform a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair tasks, including filling potholes with asphalt, sidewalk concrete work, cleaning and inspecting stormwater infrastructure, traffic sign and roadway marking maintenance, and general labour tasks.
Follow safety procedures and ensure compliance with regulations.
Maintain clear and timely communication.
Operate light-duty vehicles.
Represent the organization positively in all interactions.
What you bring
Familiarity with construction, maintenance, and repair methods for Municipal Works infrastructure.
Skilled in operating and maintaining hand and power tools.
Desire to learn and progress through the various types of heavy equipment operated in Municipal Works.
Committed to safety practices and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills for working with colleagues and the public.
Good communication skills, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Competent in using computers and relevant software for job-related tasks.
Adaptable to changing tasks and team assignments.
Physically capable of lifting heavy objects and performing strenuous work in various weather conditions.
Qualifications
Successful completion of Grade 12 or high school equivalency diploma.
Possess and maintain a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Possession of a valid Alberta Class 3 driver's license with airbrake endorsement is considered an asset.
An equivalent combination of management approved education, and experience may be considered.
This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use.
