NOTICE OF ELECTIONS 2026
The Swimming Canada Nominations Committee is seeking nominations for the Board of Directors. The election of Directors will take place at the Annual General Meeting (the AGM) on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
There are three (3) Director Positions, one of which must be a retired swimmer, for election at the AGM, each for a term of three (3) years. The Rules that govern Nominations and Elections are available on the Swimming Canada website (https://www.swimming.ca/annual-general-meeting/).
Swimming Canada is committed to attracting, developing and celebrating a diverse Board of Directors that reflects the community it serves. As a result, Swimming Canada promotes equity and diversity and encourages candidates to indicate, voluntarily in their application, if they are a member of an under-represented group, from communities that have been historically underrepresented in sport, or identify with a specific group (gender, gender identification, BIPOC, etc.)
The Board of Directors is composed of nine (9) persons that, together, have skills in one or more of the following areas:
Finance
Governance
Legal knowledge and expertise
Government relations
Policy development and implementation
Risk management
Fund development
Strategic/business planning
Marketing/branding
Partnership
Human Resources
The Board meets up to ten (10) times per year either in-person or by remote virtual conference. Of those meetings, up to three (3) are all-day in-person meetings where overnight travel may be required while the others are remote meetings with a duration of between 60 and 180 minutes. Additionally, Board members will be assigned to one or more of the following Board Committees (that meet up to four (4) times per year remotely with a duration of between 60 and 120 minutes):
Audit, Finance and Risk
External Relations
Governance
High Performance
Human Resources
Marketing and Communications
Nominations
Sport Development
For the 2026-2027 season, the Board is seeking three Directors, one of which must be a retired swimmer. The retired swimmer must be an individual who is no longer a National team member as an athlete and who has been a member of the Senior National Team within eight (8) years of their election to the Board.
Should a retired swimmer candidate not put their name forward, the Nominations Committee, may choose to fill the retired athlete position with a regular candidate from the general election.
In particular, Swimming Natation Canada has identified financial expertise (ideally supported by a professional accounting designation), marketing and branding, fund development, and government relations as priority areas where the Board is looking to boost its capability and capacity. Candidates with demonstrated experience in one or more of these areas are particularly encouraged to apply.
Experience in the field of competitive swimming (Olympic or Paralympic program)
is considered an asset, as is governance/leadership experiences with other National Sports (e.g. Hockey, Track & Field, etc.), and corporate governance credentials (e.g. ICD.D, C.Dir., ASC).

Le comit des nominations de Natation Canada est la recherche de candidatures pour son conseil d'administration. L'lection des administrateurs aura lieu lors de l'assemble gnrale annuelle (AGA) le samedi 3 octobre 2026.
Trois (3) siges d'administrateur, dont l'un doit tre occup par un nageur la retraite, sont pourvoir lors de l'assemble gnrale annuelle, chacun pour un mandat de trois (3) ans. Le conseil d'administration se runit jusqu' dix (10) fois par an, en personne ou par confrence virtuelle. De ces runions, jusqu' trois (3) sont des runions en prsentiel d'une journe entire pouvant ncessiter un dplacement avec nuite, tandis que les autres sont des runions distance d'une dure comprise entre 60 et 180 minutes. De plus, les membres du conseil d'administration seront affects un ou plusieurs des comits suivants (qui se runissent jusqu' quatre [4] fois par an distance, pour une dure de 60 120 minutes) :

Dveloppement du sport
Pour lasaison2026-2027, le conseil d'administration recherche trois administrateurs, dont l'un doit tre un nageur la retraite. Le nageur la retraite doit tre une personne qui n'est plus membre de l'quipe nationale comme athlte et qui a fait partie de l'quipe nationale snior au cours des huit (8) annes prcdant son lection au conseil d'administration.
Si aucun candidat nageur la retraite ne se prsente, le comit des nominations peut dcider de pourvoir le poste rserv un athlte la retraite en choisissant un candidat rgulier parmi ceux de l'lection gnrale.
Plus prcisment, Natation Canada a identifi l'expertise financire (idalement taye par un titre professionnel en comptabilit), le marketing et l'image de marque, la collecte de fonds et les relations gouvernementales comme des domaines prioritaires dans lesquels le conseil d'administration cherche amliorer ses capacits et ses comptences. Les candidats possdant une exprience dmontre dans un ou plusieurs de ces domaines sont particulirement encourags prsenter leur candidature.
Une exprience en natation de comptition (programme olympique ou paralympique) est considre comme un atout, tout comme une exprience de gouvernance/direction dans d'autres disciplines sportives nationales (par exemple, le hockey, l'athltisme, etc.) et des qualifications en gouvernance d'entreprise (par exemple, ICD.D, C.Dir., ASC).
