Salary:
$50.07 - $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay.
Sessional faculty have the opportunity to contribute to the College Pension Plan, with additional contributions made by the Employer.
Description:
NLC requires a sessional instructor to teach one section of
English 110 - Intro to Workplace Communications
for Intersession 2026. This course introduces students to professional and interpersonal communication in the workplace. Students will learn to organize information, write clearly and persuasively, and adapt messages for different audiences and situations. Assignments include business letters, memoranda, resumes, cover letters, presentations, bibliographies, and reports.
Class instruction will begin on May 4, 2026 (start date will allow for prep prior to the first class).
The contract for course delivery is a total of 96 hours, comprised of 45 contact hours; 45 preparation hours + 6 hours for distance delivery.
Qualifications:
Required:
Master's Degree in English, or in a closely related field.
Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
A commitment to engaging diverse learners through various forms of delivery (e.g., face-to-face, online - Desire2Learn, web-conferencing, etc.);
Experience teaching online and
Ability to function effectively as a team member through collaborative approaches to course pedagogy.
Preferred:
PhD in English, or a closely related field.
One North American post-secondary degree, preferably the terminal degree.
The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, or an equivalent credential in adult education.
Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
Experience utilizing Learning management systems such as D2L and other forms of technology to assist in course delivery is considered an asset.
