Summary/Objective
This role is responsible for the upkeep, cleanliness, and general repair of funeral home facilities to ensure a safe, well‑maintained, and dignified environment for families, visitors, and staff. This role performs a variety of cleaning, painting, minor repair, and preventative maintenance tasks while working respectfully within an active funeral service setting.
Essential Functions
Maintains cleanliness of public and staff areas, including chapels, visitation rooms, restrooms, arrangement rooms, offices, hallways, utility spaces and company vehicles.
Cleans floors, carpets, windows, furniture, fixtures, and surfaces according to established standards.
Sets up and breaks down rooms after and after services as needed.
Ensures facilities are presentable, quiet, and respectful at all times.
Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs, including drywall patching and basic carpentry, Painting, sanding, and touch‑ups, Door, lock, hinge, and hardware repairs, Basic plumbing and electrical fixture replacement (where permitted).
Identifies maintenance needs and reports larger repairs requiring licensed contractors.
Responsible for ordering supplies or parts, assembling new equipment, installing bulletin boards and hanging new drapes.
Assists with preventative maintenance to extend the life of building systems and finishes.
Performs light exterior maintenance such as cleaning entrances, walkways, signage, and parking areas.
Assists with seasonal tasks, including holiday décor setup or removal.
Supports vendor access for specialized services or repairs.
Follows all workplace safety procedures, federal or provincial guidelines, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Properly handles and stores cleaning agents, paints, and maintenance materials.
Identifies and reports safety hazards or facility concerns promptly.
Maintains discretion and sensitivity while working around families and services.
Coordinates work schedules with management to minimize disruption to services.
Responds to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
Performs other duties as assigned to support efficient facility operations.

Required Education, Experience, Certifications and Licensure
Valid driver’s license in good standing and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications and Licensure
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Two (2) years’ experience in a maintenance position a plus.
Prior experience in facilities maintenance, janitorial services, painting, or general repairs a plus.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Attend and perform work in a professional and courteous manner in accordance with the employer’s requirements.
Able to read, write and speak English fluently. Bilingual is a plus.
Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and maintenance methods.
Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
Experience working in healthcare, hospitality, funeral service, or other customer‑facing environments.
Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, or HVAC systems.
Strong attention to cleanliness and detail.
Ability to work respectfully in quiet, emotionally sensitive environments.
Good problem‑solving and observation skills along with professional demeanor and discretion.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal, as well as external customers, community leaders, and grieving client families.
Ability to empathize with client families and their guests and demonstrate tact and patience in emotionally charged situations.
Tactful and professional when dealing with complaints or dissatisfaction with services or merchandise.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The duties associated with this position are generally performed in an indoor office setting.
Outdoor duties may require exposure to natural elements such as inclement weather, extreme temperatures, uneven ground, dust, gas, and/or fumes.
Equipment used to perform the essential function of this position includes, but is not limited to computer, fax, copier, merchant terminal, multi-line phone system, personal or company owned vehicle.
Employees in this role are regularly required to climb, sit, stand, bend, kneel, and frequently lift up to 75 pounds and may be required to lift up to 100 pounds.
This position may also require reaching, pushing, and pulling.
This position may also be exposed to chemicals and/ or blood borne pathogens. Exposure risk is considered: Low
Overtime is sometimes necessary or required.
Travel
This position requires up to 10 percent travel.
Travel is primarily local occurring during the business day only.
