Board of Director role (2-year term)
AFN Enterprises (GP) Limited, the general partner of AFN Enterprises Limited Partnership (AFN Enterprises), the business arm of the akisqnuk First Nation (AFN), is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join its Board of Directors for a two-year term.
Board Directors represent AFN Enterprises and its interests, reporting to AFN through its Chief and Council. Directors play a key role in guiding the organization, providing oversight, and supporting sustainable business growth that reflects AFN values.
The Role:
Uphold integrity, efficiency, and cultural values in all business ventures.
Support executive management recruitment, development, and performance.
Contribute to long-term strategic planning with measurable goals.
Establish policies that align with corporate values, laws, and regulations.
Provide expertise in negotiations and economic development opportunities.
Review and approve venture proposals, budgets, and financial reports.
Report annually to Chief and Council and the membership.
Attend 1012 Board meetings per year (in-person and online).
Receive an honorarium and travel stipend for participation.
Required Skills:
Expertise in one or more of: business development, corporate governance, finance and accounting (CPA preferred), business law, community/land use planning, Indigenous rights and title, HR, technology, or strategic planning.
Proven leadership, relationship-building, and people management skills.
Knowledge of sectors such as retail, tourism, natural resources, real estate, or environmental services.
Familiarity with akisqnuk history and values, or experience working with First Nations communities.
Strong ability to analyze performance reports, assess risks, and make sound decisions.
Commitment of time and energy to fulfill Director responsibilities.
Integrity, impartiality, confidentiality, and avoidance of conflicts of interest.
